5A and 6A Rankings: Release Number 1

<p>The first release of the Oklahoma high school rankings has dropped. You can almost bet the rankings will continue to shift each week, as teams pick up good wins or trip up against foes. </p> <p>Let’s take a look at where each team landed in this first release and what their schedules look like this week. </p> <p><strong>6A-</strong></p> <ol> <li>Edmond Santa Fe (@ Southmoore and Yukon)</li> <li>Bishop Kelley (@Deer Creek, @BTW, and Fayetteville) </li> <li>Broken Arrow (@Sand Springs and Broken Arrow Tournament)</li> <li>Deer Creek (Bishop Kelley and @Edmond North)</li> <li>Edmond Memorial (@Mustang and Broken Arrow Tournament)</li> <li>Jenks (@Bartelsville and Broken Arrow Tournament)</li> <li>Owasso (@Union)</li> <li>Edmond North (Deer Creek)</li> <li>Norman North (Yukon and @Westmoore)</li> <li>Bixby (@BTW and Broken Arrow Tournament) </li> <li>Bishop McGuinness (@Piedmont and OCS)</li> <li>Union( Owasso)</li> <li>Sand Springs (Broken Arrow)</li> <li>Mustang (Edmond Memorial and @Moore)</li> <li>Moore (@Stillwater and Mustang)</li> <li>Booker T. Washington (Bixby, Bishop Kelley, and Broken Arrow Tournament)</li> </ol> <p><strong>Top Teams: #1 Edmond Santa Fe</strong> is currently 10-2 on the year and received 10 first-place votes. The teams that have played them have talked about how solid they are in each and every position. It makes for a rough match when the other team doesn’t have a weak rotation. <strong>Bishop Kelley</strong>, currently ranked #2, actually received more first-place votes with 13. They hold a 6-1 record after winning the Union Tournament. 2024 OH star player, Curry Kendall has been the talk of the team since she came onto the scene and started as a freshman. <strong>Broken Arrow</strong> sits at #3 after the first rankings, led by top 2022 player, [player_tooltip player_id="144086" first="Mackenzie" last="McGuire"] at the OH position. With a 6-2 record, their only two losses have come via the top-ranked Edmond Santa Fe Wolves. </p> <p>The Broken Arrow Varisty Tournament is sure to make an impact on how next week's rankings will fall, as it hosts quite a few of the top-ranked teams. </p> <p>Teams such as Edmond Memorial and Jenks could greatly build their resumes this week since they have only a few games each under their belt. </p> <p>Moore could also be looking at jumping a couple of spots if they can get two wins this week. </p> <p>A few players that could really help their teams this week: 2022 OH Sydney Thompson from BTW, who made the Muskogee all-tournament team and continues to develop her game as a whole. Their only losses so far are against 5A #5 Sapulpa and 5A #7 Tahlequah. 15-2 to open the first two weeks is hard to beat in any class in the state. <strong>#2</strong> <strong>Mount St. Mary </strong>was the pre-season favorite to be #1 in 5A. They are 8-1 and their only loss is to 6A #7 Owasso in the championship game in the Westmoore tournament. <strong>Carl Albert</strong> sits at #3 with a record of 9-4, but all 4 losses have come from teams ranked inside the top four of their respective classes. </p> <p><span style="font-size: 1rem;">5A is predicted to have a large mix-up for the second release. </span></p> <p>Southeast really made a name for themselves at the Sandite Invitational and will look to make a move upwards with a couple of wins found in a couple of matches and a tournament this week. </p> <p>Piedmont and El Reno have a tough week ahead but could really make waves if they can pull off some upsets.  </p> <p>Please stay tuned for my articles coming soon. </p>
