Promising volleyball players have been standing out all over the state of Washington. From North to South, and East to West, talent abounds in the Evergreen State with young prospects consistently climbing the volleyball ladder in different areas of the state.

With that in mind, we’re starting a series that will highlight some of the most promising Washington players according to their positions and regions. After a deep dive in the Snohomish, here are some setters we believe you should keep an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id="97061" first="Ellina" last="Powell"] – HS: Jackson – Club: Washington Volleyball Academy – 2022

It’s usual to see setter who have the talent, but lack the size needed to play at the next level. That’s not the case with [player_tooltip player_id="97061" first="Ellina" last="Powell"]. Besides having one of the greatest hands in the entire state, this Jackson high school prospect stands at 6’1” and is also able to make a difference at the net. Powell is extremely fluid with her ball distribution and impressively remarkable with her location. She’s just getting better with the more experience she gets and delivered a strong performance last season, ending the Timberwolves’ campaign with 199 assists, 81 digs and 20 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id="97234" first="Ayla" last="Grant"] – HS: Snohomish – Club: Seattle Jrs – 2023

[player_tooltip player_id="97234" first="Ayla" last="Grant"] might not have Powell’s size at 5’8”, but she leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to her setting ability. The Snohomish high school playmaker is one of the best in the business in the region because of her creative distribution and superior ball control. Grant is also extremely well-versed on defense and can be used as a defensive specialist if needed. Also a beach volleyball player, she’s coming off a high school season in which she tallied 105 assists, 62 digs and 21 aces in just 28 sets with the Lady Panthers.

Katelyn Eichert – HS: Lake Stevens – 2024

The next high school season will mark the end of an era to Lake Stevens as after four years operating under the guidance of [player_tooltip player_id="97003" first="Michelle" last="Fast"], the Lady Vikings will have a new setter. Katelyn Eichert seems well-positioned to take up that spot as she showed some promise with extremely limited playing time in her freshman season, averaging six assists per set. The 5’7” Eichert is also an efficient defender and will also bring that to the table if she’s given the starting role next season.
