There are still plenty of talented 2022’s left on the board. This was obvious at the Adidas Charger Challenge at the Milwaukee Sting Center which featured some of the top teams across the state. With top teams, brings top talent, and many of these Seniors were clear leaders and would be an added bonus to plenty of college teams next year.

I know the Senior year can be tough for athletes who are toying with the decision of where to go for college. There may be some athletes who are ready to hang up the volleyball shoes where their playing ability doesn’t match the school they want to attend. For those athletes who are in that situation, think about next year, but also give a thought as to where you see yourself two and three years from now. What is the best fit for you? For those who are for sure going to play in college, remember a lot is going on right now for college coaches. They are coaches to their team first, and then recruiting. When their season is over, they will know what roster spots are open, positions in need, and depending on the division what their scholarship situation is. Hang in there 2022’s, we’re rooting for you.

[player_tooltip player_id="81266" first="Riley" last="Dahlquist"] - Sussex Hamilton - Middle Blocker

When talking to college coaches, they are usually asking about middles and setters. These two would be a high priority to be in touch with. [player_tooltip player_id="57287" first="Tatum" last="Baldwin"] is extremely smooth, her hands are money where she can put any tempo up to her hitters and connects extremely well with her middles, especially Dahlquist. Her court presence has a calm vibe where she is going to always be cool, calm and collected under pressure.

Dahlquist definitely has a physical presence where she is long and athletic, but also really physical at the net. She’s terminal with her swing where she is looking to score instead of tip. A high IQ player, she knows how to anticipate and read a setter in order to be in position to get the block. She was a treat to watch!

[player_tooltip player_id="81303" first="Sophie" last="McCormack"] - Kettle Moraine - Right Side/Outside

It’s the blocking for me. I’ve seen McCormack play plenty of times and I was always impressed with her ability to play six rotations and put up points from either pin. This past weekend, I really saw how she has a major presence blocking. She has really clean technique where hitters aren’t tooling her. From the positioning to her feet and hands, she was up against some of the top attackers in the state and definitely went toe to toe with some points for herself coming from her block.

[player_tooltip player_id="81261" first="Madisen" last="Miller"] - Appleton North - Libero

Miller has always been a consistent defensive presence for Appleton North. She wants the ball hit at her, she wants the serve, the big swings, she wants to be in a position to make plays for North. As the season continues, and the schedules remains a gauntlet for this squad when they head to the West Bend Sprawl and the Sky Hawk Invite at Omaha Skutt Catholic in Nebraska, her play will be essential to their success.

[player_tooltip player_id="81333" first="Stella" last="Zarling"] - Kettle Moraine Lutheran - Outside Hitter

Zarling has had a huge summer which has carried into the fall season. An electric outside hitter who is always solid in the backrow as a primary passer in serve receive and being able to keep a hard-driven ball in system in the backrow also is available as an outlet to swing in the backrow. What isn’t on the stat sheet is how she plays with fire and intensity. Her energy and smile are contagious to her team and will do what it takes to keep the momentum on her side.

[caption id="attachment_158083" align="alignright" width="371"] Gaeth[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="81311" first="Alyssa" last="Gaeth"] - Kettle Moraine Lutheran - Right Side

Gaeth is 6’0 tall and provides a major block on the right side along with a heavy left handed swing. When she connects, it’s tough to keep in system. KML had a big battle with a ranked Kimberly squad where they had two narrow set losses, but Gaeth was a big part to their success with her swing and block.

[player_tooltip player_id="57288" first="Ella" last="Buddenhagen"] - Kimberly - Outside Hitter

Buddenhagen has been a three year starter for Kimberly which has always been a ranked team in D1, a solid program. As an outside hitter, Buddenhagen can go for the big swing or she can mix up her shots to score points. A high academic student, Buddenhaggen gets it done on the court and the classroom.

[caption id="attachment_129789" align="alignright" width="464"] Neitzel[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="149541" first="Morgan" last="Neitzel"] - Arrowhead - Middle Blocker

Neitzel came on really strong in the club season for her RVA 17 Navy squad and shows that she is a college prospect as a middle blocker. With a high touch, Neitzel is able to get a hand on plenty of shots and is available to attack out of the middle. Her ceiling is really high and her best volleyball is still to come where she has plenty of positive intangibles in her favor.

[player_tooltip player_id="57270" first="Michaela" last="Riege"] - Waterloo - Libero

Reige is accustomed to winning and high level volleyball. She’s played in two state tournaments, including the state championship in D3 in 2020, and has been one of the state’s leaders in digs. She has played her club ball for FC Elite and has seen plenty of big swings and serves at the open level. Waterloo is coming along with a young team and will be looking to make a run in their sectional.

[player_tooltip player_id="81308" first="Taylor" last="Larson"] - Menomonee Falls - Outside Hitter

Larson has been a key scoring threat as an outside hitter for Menomonee Falls, but is a really key defender in their scheme. With nearly 200 digs on the season, she could see a future as a DS/L at the college level who could provide a swing out of the backrow.

[player_tooltip player_id="57267" first="Aoife" last="Treacy"] - Mukwonago - Right Side

Real dynamic and athletic. Treacy was swinging from the outside and she’s left handed. She can swing from either pin as well as from the backrow. She’s played for Milwaukee Sting national teams and knows how to play at a high level. Her upside is really high and for teams who need that swiss army knife type player, she’s one who brings a whole new dimension and could be the missing link that plenty of programs need.
