Players Flying Under the Radar

<p>The 2021 season is underway and people cannot be happier that players have been granted the opportunity to continue to play the sports they love. This season will be unlike any other, but there will be opportunities for players to blossom before our eyes. Let’s take a look at some players who have flown under the radar so far. </p> <p><em><strong>Erin Gretsky (St. John Vianney; OH)</strong></em></p> <p>Gretsky has taken over the reigns as the number one option for St. John Vianney by a clear margin. She remains out of the spotlight with one of the best arguably in the state, [player_tooltip player_id="152484" first="Mackenzie" last="Bloss"] on the squad. She has a live arm and is on her way to a triple-digit kill season with 77 so far. She is the St. John Vianney offense at the moment. </p> <p><em><strong>Ayana Crandell (Absegami; MB)</strong></em></p> <p>Crandell is the top option for Absegami and is a workhorse in the middle but will line up on the outside from time to time. What makes her special? Her ability to hit on angles and be creative with shot selection. Not many in the middle have a nice roll kill but she has quality placement. </p> <p><em><strong>Laysa Pereira (Technology; S)</strong></em></p> <p>Pereira has been arguably one of the best setters in the state but playing on a squad that does not get as much recognition like Technology. We almost never hear of her. She is up near the top in assists with 183 and she is the engine for Technology. She spreads the ball around ensuring to make the best play for her teammates to be successful. </p> <p><em><strong>Hannah Tobin (Rutherford; S)</strong></em></p> <p>Tobin is the best player on Rutherford, who is 10-0! People need to take notice of her and the squad. She is the catalyst for them and has pinpoint precision with her passing. This is her first season at the varsity level and has taken the setter spot and ran away with it. She’s got 103 assists on the campaign so far. </p> <p><em><strong>Maya Brown (Mother Seton; DS/L)</strong></em></p> <p>Brown lies in the shadow of the backrow for Mother Seton. As the libero, she has perfect court position in order for her to make plays on the ball. She is averaging 11 digs per game and they aren’t just digs to get the ball up, they are quality passes to turn defense into offense. She has been critical to how effective Mother Seton has been. </p>
