Who Rocked their Early-Season Conference Matchups?

The high school volleyball season is now underway with many teams having played in their first tournaments and conference matches. Some schools had a bye on the first night of conference play and will get the chance to compete on Thursday. Here are some teams who rocked their early-season conference matchups! <h3>DSHA</h3> DSHA has very quickly established itself as a Division 1 dynamo this season. In their opening conference matchup against Menomonee Falls, the Dashers swept at all three levels. Freshman Madison Quest has become dominant in all six rotations and leads the team in kills. She had 16 in their sweep of Menomonee Falls and hit a 0.44. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="81291" first="Kara" last="Schmit"] has made a huge impact on defense. She is a smart and dynamic player who is quick on defense and controlled in serve receive. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="81330" first="Paige" last="Yelmene"] had a whopping 22 assists. Her speed and high volleyball IQ make her dangerous to opposing defenders. Paige is hard to read as a setter and utilizes it to give her hitters open blocks. <h3>Waukesha West</h3> West swept against crosstown rival Waukesha South in their conference opener. The team is moving their offense around and really utilizing all of their hitters. Middle hitters Devon Hanson (2022) and [player_tooltip player_id="122558" first="Ella" last="Skogman"] (2024) led the team in kills with 5 each. Ella also lead the team in blocks with two on the match. DS/L Lucy Friess (2024) was unstoppable in the back row and had a huge impact on the success of this team. Sophia Busse (2022) and [player_tooltip player_id="122515" first="Brylee" last="Leverenz"] (2024) both set throughout the match and were impactful in ‘setting’ their hitters up for success! <h3>Oconomowoc</h3> Oconomowoc not only swept but also dominated Catholic Memorial. While I am not surprised that they won, I did think this matchup might go to 5 sets as both are highly competitive teams. [player_tooltip player_id="122475" first="Anna" last="Bjork"] (2024) had a huge game with 9 kills, 6 aces, and a block. Fellow sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="122568" first="Lilly" last="Wagner"] had 36 assists and showed just how amazing she is in all six rotations. Middle hitter [player_tooltip player_id="81265" first="Alana" last="Dvorak"] had 8 kills, also having a dominating performance. [player_tooltip player_id="81331" first="Hadley" last="Strohkirch"] was impactful in the back row leading the team in both digs and receptions. <h3>Germantown</h3> Germantown (WVCA Week 1 Rank 6) took out Brookfield Central (WVCA Week 1 Rank 2) in a 3-1 win. This was a dominating performance by the Warhawks. [player_tooltip player_id="122568" first="Lilly" last="Wagner"] (2023) had an incredible 19 kills closely followed by [player_tooltip player_id="81276" first="Madelyn" last="Weyda"] (2022) who had 18. Setter [player_tooltip player_id="81278" first="Maddie" last="Connor"] broke the Germantown career assist record during this match which is a huge accomplishment! She also brought in 5 aces and two kills. <h3>Kettle Moraine</h3> KM won in four sets against Mukwonago. [player_tooltip player_id="91875" first="Grace" last="Grocholski"] was unstoppable on the pin and earned 25 kills for her team. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="82910" first="Kyleigh" last="Coghlan"] had a huge impact on defense and had 22 digs and 26 service receptions. Senior setter [player_tooltip player_id="57272" first="Rebecca" last="Siedenburg"] also had a great performance with 48 assists. <h3>Other Big Wins</h3> Martin Luther swept Milwaukee Lutheran Burlington swept Westosha Central Freedom swept Oconto Falls Sussex Hamilton swept Kettle Moraine Lutheran Arrowhead swept Waukesha North Brookfield East swept Wauwatosa West
