Cardington-Lincoln downed Northridge 3-1 to advance in the postseason. Brininger had a monster match as she terminated 23 kills on a .385 efficiency. The 5’11 outside hitter also picked up 14 digs in the match. The Pirates are 21-3 overall and were the champions of the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference this season. Brininger has been their primary point scorer at 5.5 kills per set and is closing in on 400 total kills this season. They next face CHCA on Thursday in the regional semifinals.
Ava Gummer – 2023 | Newark Catholic
With 17 kills, Gummer helped Newark Catholic secure their spot in the regional bracket. The Green Wave defeated Northmor 3-2 to improve to 20-6 overall. The 5’11 junior outside hitter is one half of a junior duo that is averaging 3.6 kills per set for Newark Catholic. She also averages 5.1 digs per match. She brings a lot of fire and energy to the court as a pin attacker and sees a lot of opportunity in their offense. If she can improve her approach work to more consistently hit at the peak of her jump her efficiency and point scoring will increase as she can create solid contact above the net when on time.
Lucy Montgomery – 2022 | Crestview
Montgomery is averaging 3.6 kills per set and recently tied her highest output this season offensively with 19 kills in helping lead Crestview to a big 3-1 win over Cardinal to advance to the regional round. She also picked up 19 digs as the Rebels remain unbeaten at 26-0 on the season. The #6 ranked team in the Ohio Division III poll, Crestview has multiple attackers between two and three kills per set, led by Montgomery. They next take on top-ranked Independence on Thursday evening.
India Williams – 2022 | Beaumont School
Beaumont earned the Northeast #3 district title over Hathaway Brown behind 20 kills from Willams, their senior leader on the outside. She also added 14 digs and five service aces in the 3-2 victory. Williams leads the 15-11 Blue Streaks offensively at 2.3 kills per set and 6.4 digs per match. At 5’9, she is athletic and can develop good pace and movement of her arm at the top of her jump. Beaumont next faces Tallmadge on Thursday.
