This past week has been highlighted by top performances, tournaments, and major conference matchups as the season winds down before postseason play. So let’s take a look some of the biggest takeaways from Week 6 of the season.
Several Teams Closing the Gap
A couple weeks ago, I listed as a takeaway that there was a substantial gap between Immaculate Heart and the rest of the state. The gap has started to close as I’ve seen several teams raise their games. Two teams that come to mind are Demarest and Williamstown. Both squads are extremely balanced with a couple stars in Olivia Cammalleri Olivia Cammalleri S Demarest | 2022 State NJ (Demarest) and Dajah Williams (Williamstown).
Demarest may end up playing IHA in the Bergen County Tournament so it would be a major litmus test while Williamstown has run through everyone this season.
Another Unbeaten Goes Down
Week-by-week the number of unbeaten squads continues to dwindle as now only seven unbeaten squads remain. Who was this past weeks victim? Mainland of the Cape-Atlantic League. They were knocked off the pedestal of the unbeatens by Pinelands in a non-conference matchup that went the distance.
It’s going to be intriguing to see how many unbeaten squads remain by the time State begins.
