Group 2 opens up tournament play today. These moments are what these girls have played all year for. So let’s take a dive into some players to watch and I’ll even throw in a prediction.

North 1 Section

The North 1 section of Group 2 features 12 teams and Demarest is the top overall seed.

Players to Watch

[player_tooltip player_id="128499" first="Olivia" last="Cammalleri"] (Demarest)

Cammalleri is the best player on the best team in the state. She looks like she is playing in slow motion and her setting looks effortless. She always makes the correct play.

Mackenzie Rock (Jefferson)

Rock is the top option on a Jefferson squad that has put everything together this season. She can punish you from anywhere on the court with power and precision.

Aralyn Saulus (Sparta)

An impact freshman that has took on the challenge for Sparta is Saulus. Her talent has been on full-display this season and she has plenty of room to grow.

Prediction

Demarest over Sparta

North 2 Section

The North 2 section of Group 2 features 12 teams and Leonia is the top overall seed.

Players to Watch

Ava Johnson (Leonia)

Johnson is a phenomenal backrow player. She understands where she needs to be on the court to ensure she can make a play. Her court awareness and anticipation create defense into offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="152482" first="Jaylinn" last="Colon"] (Lyndhurst)

Colon has great precision with her passing and makes her teammates better on the court. She can always see her impacting the game even if it’s something small.

Ava Novello (West Morris)

Novello is the go-to option for West Morris and for good reason. The outside hitter has a great swing and a high volleyball IQ to ensure she is making the best play for the team.

Prediction

Lyndhurst over Leonia

Central Section

The Central section of Group 2 features 12 teams and Mendham is the top overall seed.

Players to Watch

Amanda Bonefont (Raritan)

Bonefont is one who has flown under the radar for most of the season but she is an all-around talent. She can rack up kills like no tomorrow and is dominant in the middle.

Poppy Skjonnemand (Mendham)

Skjonnemand’s versatility is what comes to mind. She lines up on the outside and in the middle. She has great anticipation of where the ball is going to get blocks and for her swing.

Sydney Bruns (Madison)

Bruns is a setter for Madison with pinpoint accuracy on her passes. It is extremely rare when she misses a set and spreads the ball around to keep teams guessing.

Prediction

Mendham over Gov. Livingston

South Section

The South section of Group 2 features 10 teams and Pinelands is the top overall seed.

Players to Watch

Patria Moreno (Barnegat)

Moreno is the focal point for Barnegat. She imprints the game in all phases. She can pass, set, hit and serve. It’s nothing short of phenomenal. She is almost impossible to stop entirely.

Jayla Trice (Pleasantville)

Looking for a player on a higher seed who maybe can take their squad on an improbable run. You have one here in Trice for Pleasantville. She has a live arm and is extremely creative.

Jayne Wilkinson (Pinelands)

Wilkinson is dominant in the middle for Pinelands. Her block numbers may be low but she still effects the opposing teams swing. Then she has great power with her swing.

Prediction

Pinelands over Barnegat
