5 Athletes Hitting Over 0.400 Headed into State

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are some extremely talented athletes headed up to the Resch center this weekend and all are great at what they do. The number of kills is usually a stat most people fall back on, but looking at individuals hitting percentage is impressive as well. A hitting percentage is calculated by taking kills, subtracting errors, and then dividing that number by the total number of attempts. This gives a hitter’s efficiency on the court and is a huge indicator of the impact they are having on their team. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For all stats loaded into MaxPreps, there are rankings state and nationally. It is no surprise that a lot of athletes making an appearance at state are listed quite high on this list. Here is a breakdown of the top hitting percentages heading into state. </span></p> <h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Megan Zielsdorf - 2022 - Middle Hitter - Pewaukee</span></h3> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Megan has the highest logged hitting percentage in the state at 0.482. This is truly incredible for an athlete. To put this in perspective, she has only missed 35 hits this entire season. WOW. Megan has an explosive style of play and is very active on the court. She stays engaged with her setters and has a great connection with them. </span></p> <h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sydney Smith - 2023 - Middle Hitter - Unity </span></h3> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sydney has a 0.461 hitting percentage. Nearly half of her contacts on the ball are kills. That is one lethal athlete. Sydney is a huge asset on this team and will be a player to watch at state this weekend. </span></p> <h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">[player_tooltip player_id="149696" first="Lianna" last="Baxter"] - 2022 - Middle Hitter - Oconto </span></h3> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lianna has been an impact player on this offense for the past two years. This year, she has a hitting percentage of 0.453. She is a go-to hitter on this team with 683 attempts, 344 kills, and only 35 errors over nearly 100 sets. Lianna is smart and powerful which helps her earn a ton of points for her team. </span></p> <h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">[player_tooltip player_id="22407" first="Mckenna" last="Wucherer"] - Committed to Minnesota - Outside Hitter - Brookfield Central</span></h3> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">McKenna is arguably the best athlete in the state. She recently competed with the USAV U18 Women’s team and took bronze at the U18 World Championships. Now she has led her team to their first-ever state appearance. Despite missing a portion of the season to travel with USA Volleyball, she has over 400 kills and a 0.439 hitting percentage, nearly unheard of for an outside hitter. </span></p> <h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">[player_tooltip player_id="91856" first="Ellie" last="Gustafson"] - 2023 - Outside Hitter - Monticello </span></h3> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ellie is another incredibly impressive outside hitter. It is very hard to have a high hitting efficiency as a pin hitter because they tend to get the most attempts on the ball. Yet Ellie is hitting a 0.401. Her impact on the team goes far beyond her offensive efficiency though.
