<p>CIF championships were earned up and down the state this past Saturday. We check in on some of the top performances from So Cal.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159951" first="Rylee" last="Schulz"], 6-0 Outside, Sr., Carlsbad</strong> – As she has done all season, Schulz was key in the Lancers’ victory over Rancho Bernardo, which helped Carlsbad earn the CIF San Diego Section Division 1 trophy. Schulz was close to unstoppable with 18 kills and hitting .469 on 32 swings. It was the ninth time Schulz had at least 18 kills in a match this season.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160979" first="Andrea" last="Torres"], 5-9 Outside, Soph., Otay Ranch</strong> – In the CIF San Diego Section Division 2 final, Otay Ranch knocked off Francis Parker in four sets behind a match-high 16 kills from Torres. The sophomore was clutch, hitting .387 and adding 9 digs. Torres’ 16 winners were a season high, besting her previous high of 14 set in the semifinals against Olympian.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159525" first="Megan" last="Verblest"], 5-6 Libero/DS, Sr., Marymount</strong> – Verblest was one of the Sailors to come up large as Marymount defeated Mater Dei in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship match. She held down the back row solidly, producing a season-high 22 digs in the victory. It topped her previous high of 20 digs, which came against Redondo Union on Sept. 2.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159519" first="Kerry" last="Keefe"], 6-2 Right Side, Sr., Marymount</strong> – It was a match to remember for Keefe, who produced her first double-double of the season in helping Marymount to the championship victory. Her 15 kills were a season-high and second most on the team last Saturday behind the 17 from [player_tooltip player_id="159518" first="Elia" last="Rubin"]. She also put up a season-best 13 digs.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159522" first="Kelly" last="Belardi"], 5-9 Setter, Sr., Marymount</strong> – While Belardi didn’t put up a season high in any category like her teammates Verblest and Keefe, she did give the Sailors a terrific all-around outing. The senior setter dished out 42 assists and came up with 14 digs, second most on the team behind Verblast.</p>
<p><strong>Temple Vasquez, 5-9 Outside, Jr., Sylmar</strong> – The Spartans were victorious over San Pedro in straight sets to become the CIF LA City Section Division 1 champions behind the play of Vasquez. Her 12 kills led the way as she hit .500. She also had 9 digs and 2 aces.</p>
<p><strong>Natalie Urena, 5-8 Outside, Sr., Sylmar</strong> – Urena was another player Sylmar relied heavily on in Saturday’s championship performance. The senior gave the Spartans a double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 11 digs. She also hit .323 on a team-high 31 swings.</p>
