Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most.
We are proud to announce our First Team All State selections in this article series. We will be posting a few athletes at a time in order to give enough credit to each player. We are very proud of each player and everyone who helped them reach their goals this year. These players are being picked due to their individual performance on their teams this high school season. This next article in this series is devoted to the Liberos. These two young ladies are our picks for 1st Team All- State.
1st Team All State Selection: Libero
Jessica Shildt Jessica Shildt 5'3" | DS/L Bishop Kelley | 2023 State OK [2023] 5-2 Libero (HS: Bishop Kelley/Club: Club ONE/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jessica is currently ranked as our 23rd best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays for Bishop Kelley High School and also club volleyball for the Club ONE program. We profiled her earlier this year and here is a little refresher on what we stated, “Miss Shildt shows great range as she routinely is able to keep a ball in play that is hit well beyond her reach. She is able to push off her outside foot and extend her entire body out to dig the seam attack. Being a smaller player, she does not play like it as she has such a great soft touch on hard driven balls from her opponents. She has been extremely solid for Bishop Kelley in the back row as she has tallied 598 digs, 839 service receptions, and 37 aces in a year and a half on varsity. We are proud to have her in the Rankings and look forward to covering her.” This year she has added to those numbers very well. Jess was a big reason why Bishop Kelley made it all the way to the State Semi-Finals in which they barely lost a five-set thriller to eventual champion Jenks. We can’t wait to see what she does in the future for both high school and club. Please congratulate her on being named 1st Team All-State as it is a fantastic achievement due to her play on the court.
1st Team All State Selection: Libero
Addison Banes Addison Banes 5'5" | DS/L Edmond Santa Fe | 2023 State OK [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Addison is currently ranked as the 27th best overall prospect in the 2023 class but that will change once we update the rankings in a few months. We profiled her earlier when we watched her in person at the Bishop McGuinness tourney and here is what we stated, “She is a solid libero that plays for both Santa Fe high school and also club for the amazing OP2 program. This young lady shows great dexterity in the position. I like how active she is in left back while both in defense and covering her hitters. Her arms show a very soft touch on the ball whether hit directly at her or outside of her body. She will be looked at to keep her team in every rally during the tough conference matches and heading into the state playoff. We are expecting great things from her in the future.” She was one of the primary reasons why Santa Fe was so dominant this season and reached the State Semi-Finals. Her ball control on serve receive was on another level for her varsity squad. Defensively she covered a lot of range and kept so man yrallies going against some hard hitters. She has a bright future and will definitely move up the rankings when we updated them. Please help us in congratulating her on earning 1st Team All-State.
