There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are funneling into the end of district play and about to head into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. Our end-of-season awards are going to be different because we are going to consider all divisions/conferences/classes together and pick the best of the best. The liberos we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long with some amazing statistics. Let’s meet some of the nominees:
Jenna McMichael [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Midlothian/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jenna is currently an unranked prospect in our 2023 Prep Dig State Rankings, but we definitely have our eye on her with what she did this year. She plays at Midlothian High School and also for the famed Dallas Skyline club. Miss McMichael has a super strong base that keeps her steady both in serve receive and while setting up to dig. You can tell just how good she has been trained by the way she holds her platform out before contact and after. But what goes unnoticed by the casual observer is the elite level at which she reads the ball out of the servers contact to be in such a great position to pass the rock. She helped Midlothian to a 37-8 overall record and a 12-0 district record. She has tallied 854 digs, which is the most in the state of Texas amongst junior liberos. She also has 645 service receptions and 56 aces on the year. It is safe to say she has played her way into consideration for an All-State award this year. Please congratulate her on the achievement.
Isabel Neu [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Taft/Club: San Antonio Force/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Isabel is currently an unranked prospect in the state but has been on our radar after this high school season. She plays for Taft High School and also for San Antonio Force Volleyball out of the Lone Star region. As a junior, she has tallied the 3rd most digs in the state amongst all juniors with 672 digs. She also has 554 service receptions, and also 35 aces on the year. She digs some hard driven shots with ease out of the left back position. What most who watch her will love is the absolute disregard for her safety as she lays out for balls well outside of her zone. Not a lot falls near her zone when she’s on the court. She is one who plays the game with such a high motor. We are proud to have her as a candidate for one of our All-State awards. Please help us congratulate her on the honor. We are going to keep our eye on this one and think that coll
Lily Hopkins [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Tomball/Club: Houston Juniors / Verbal: Alabama)
Lily is currently an unranked prospect in the state in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but she should be listed soon once we update the rankings. She plays at Tomball High School and the awesome Houston Juniors . The Alabama commit has picturesque form and unbelievable range out of the back row. She can flat out dig any attack and has no fear. Lola has been stellar this high school season as she has tallied 603 digs, 631 service receptions, and 35 aces. Her dig count is good enough for 10th most in the entire state amongst junior liberos. We are extremely proud of her and how she has proven herself on the court amongst her peers. Please help us congratulate her on the achievement of being in the running for an All-State award.
There are many more amazing players that will be nominated. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes to see who ends up with a chance at one of the prestigious awards.
