Continue ReadingThe 2021 High School season has been amazing so far! Along with our readers, we have been on pins and needles watching teams battle all season long. There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are funneling into the end of district play and about to head into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. The setters we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long. Let’s meet some setters that have been nominated for All-State consideration:
Taylor Anderson Taylor Anderson 6'0" | S Cornerstone Christian | 2023 State #21 Nation TX [2023] 6-1 Setter/Hitter (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Purdue)
Miss Anderson is currently ranked as our 6th best overall prospect and the top ranked setter in our State Rankings and it shows in every aspect of her game. We profiled her last year and here is a little of what we stated, “She is an all around player who sets and hits for her club team. She is a six foot one phenom who controls the game in different aspects. While blocking she shuts down opponents with her amazing press over the net. She seals it so well that her opponents do not have much of a chance to score. Coaches are already drooling over her size when it comes to setting. She is being looked at by some very big programs and whichever she decides to verbally commit to will be in heaven. She seriously has it all. Her ball control is spot on, she locates her sets extremely well across all tempos and her attacking skills are superb. This young lady is going to lead her team to greatness. We look forward to covering her for years to come.” Taylor has been on a tear this year for Cornerstone Christian. She has tallied 748 assists 314 digs, 276 kills, and 47 aces during her junior season. Her overall performance helped her varsity team to a 44-10 overall record. She continues to prove that she is one of the best setters in the state. Please congratulate her on achieving the nomination for an All-State award.
Miller McDonald Miller McDonald 5'8" | S Lake Highlands | 2023 State #156 Nation TX [2023] 5-8 Setter (HS: Lake Highlands/Club: Madfrog/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miller is currently ranked as the 10th overall prospect and the 2nd ranked setter in the 2023 class according to our State Rankings. We have written multiple articles over the course of the year about her that stated, “Miller is a setter who loves her craft. She can be seen in a gym by herself setting to a target often. Her work ethic at such a young age is inspiring to watch. The ball comes off of her hands so smoothly that you can tell she was born to set. The fluidity of her arms during her follow through is a sight to see. She possesses great footwork to track the ball down and has excellent posture throughout her set. The set that truly raises my eyebrows is when she goes against flow behind her to a right side hitter. It usually takes years to master that set as it is one of the most difficult to perfect. Miller is pretty close to getting it perfect. When I see her do that at this young Freshman age group, I just shake my head and know that volleyball is in great hands with young players of this caliber already. It is safe to say that this young lady is one of the next great Dallas area setters. I suggest you college coaches take note NOW. I am more excited to cover this young lady because she has a drive that is not seen in many players. Everyone on this State Rankings list has something about them that stands out. The drive to be the best is alive and well inside of Miller. And it is this that will keep her on our radar for the next few years. She has every tool in her toolbox that will allow her to move up the rankings. We have been watching very closely and she is ready to take the Lake Highlands volleyball program over for the next few years. Meanwhile her and her Drive Nation squad have been on a mission this club season. They are one of the top teams in the nation in their age group and have already punched their Open Division ticket to USA Junior Nationals with a huge 3rd place finish in the Open Division of the Mid East Qualifier. They went 9-1 and showed the nation who they are. Be on the lookout for our updated State Rankings List next month to see where she falls. We have been following her very closely and she continues to prove herself on the court while leading one of the best teams in the nation in her age group. They are primed and ready for a solid run at USA Nationals this summer. Please help us congratulate her on moving up to be one of the top ten volleyball players in the State of Texas.” We will be watching closely as she switched clubs to the famed Madfrog club and they are loaded with talent this year. This past high school season, she just led her Lake Highlands varsity team to a playoff birth this year. She was so good during her junior season that she earned the Most Valuable Player of district 7-6A with her play. Please help us congratulate her on achieving the honor of being nominated for an All-State award.
Caroline Mann [2023] 5-5 Setter (HS: Coronado/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Caroline is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a quick setter from Coronado High School from the El Paso area. This young lady has been on absolute fire this season. She currently has 1,227 assists, which is good enough to be the 2nd most in the entire state, which includes other juniors in public and private schools across Texas. She also has 250 digs, 31 aces and also 45 kills on the year. They went 27-14 overall and 11-4 in district but caught fire once in the playoffs and have made it all the way to the Regional Quarters this week. Miss Mann is a huge reason for their success as she is in total control of the offense. While smaller in size, she makes up for it with speed and intelligence. I love how well she reads the ball off of before the passer even touches it to set her up for the delivery. We are going to keep our eye on this young lady as she has been so productive in high school. She is a gifted volleyball player who has earned the right to be nominated for All-State consideration. Please congratulate her on the accomplishment.
There are many more amazing players that will be nominated. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes to see who ends up with a chance at one of the prestigious awards.
