There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are funneling into the end of district play and about to head into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. The sophomores we will be discussing in this series have been tearing it up and proving they belong with the upperclassmen. Let’s meet some of the nominees that we will be choosing from:
Kinslee Smith [2024] 5-8 Setter (HS: Klein/Club: Houston Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kinslee is currently unranked in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but she has proven that she belongs on the list when we update them soon. Miss Smith has a fantastic posture throughout each set and it helps her stay super consistent. She keeps her hands open throughout her release and makes each set look so smooth. In her first year on varsity she has lit the Houston area on fire. She has 1,359 assists which is the 2nd most amongst all sophomores across the state. Miss smith helped Klein reload from last year and continue their dominance in the Houston area with a 36-9 overall record and a 12-0 district record. She also had 240 digs, 91 kills, and 56 aces on the year. We are happy to have watched such a wonderful breakout performance and it is due to this that she has earned a nomination for an All-State award with our publication. Please help us congratulate her on the achievement.
Camille Edwards Camille Edwards 5'11" | S Prestonwood Christian | 2024 State #95 Nation TX [2024] 5-11 Setter (HS: Prestonwood Christian/Club: Texas Advantage/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Camille is currently ranked as the 22nd best overall prospect and the 3rd best setter in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a tall setter who can play all the way around. We profiled her previously last year and wrote the following about her, “As a freshman at Prestonwood Christian, she has been named 6A District 2 Setter of the Year. When you watch her while she is in her element, she looks so calm in the setting position. What stands out the most is how the ball comes off of her hands so quickly during her shoot set to the 31 position. My mouth drops when I watch her set it so fluidly while jump setting. A freshman is not supposed to be able to make it look so beautiful like Miss Edwards is able to. She has all of the tools to move up our rankings as we watch her progress. She is crafty and scores well from setter dumps and plays defense like a seasoned veteran. Please help us welcome her to the State Rankings as we are excited to cover her this club season and for the future.” We have watched as Miss Edwards grow right before our eyes. She has helped Prestonwood Christian to a 37-5 overall record and a 9-1 district record. In her lone season on varsity, she has tallied the 4th most assists in the entire state amongst sophomores with 1,286. She also had 181 digs, 78 kills, and 47 aces on the year. This kind of production on varsity is the very reason why she has been has been named one of the best setters in the state in her grad class. Please help us congratulate her on earning a nomination for an All-State award.
Reagan Aponte [2024] 5-5 Setter (HS: Rudder/Club: Brazos Valley/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Reagan is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but we definitely have our eye on her. She plays for Rudder High School in the Bryan/College Station area and also club for Brazos Valley Juniors . She is a tricky one as someone has taught her the art of dumping at a high level. She is a true artist with it and scores quite well for her team. When she dumps the opposing team doesn’t stand a chance. When it comes to setting, this young lady puts in the work to deliver a ball so beautifully in the same spot multiple times in a row from anywhere on the court. Miss Aponte has done an amazing job stepping into a starting varsity role this year as she has tallied 1,105 assists which is good enough to be the 5th most amongst all sophomores in the entire state. She also tallied 284 digs, 116 kills, and 78 aces on the year. Please congratulate her for earning a nomination for an All-State award.
