Hitters need to work with one another to keep a team unpredictable as well as needing their setters to put them in the best position possible. Setters cannot put their team in system without the money pass. Division 1 Girls Quarterfinals kicked off the State Tournament weekend at the Resch Center in Green Bay and with that being said, here are some of the top duos that led their teams into Semi-final action for Friday night.

Appleton North is back for their third straight trip and they’ve got more weapons than ever before. After graduating their floor Sargeant, Brooke Bolwerk, handed the reins off to Emmerson Van Lannen (2024 – 5’10 – Setter) and they are a force. Thursday afternoon they were led by a pair of pin hitters in East Tennessee commit, Cantrell, and Florida commit, Martin, as both had double-digit kills in their win over Holmen. With half of their losses coming to this D1 tournament field (Brookfield Central, Oconomowoc, and Burlington) it makes for a very interesting weekend of play!
Cordelia Kearns Cordelia Kearns 6'1" | OH Oconomowoc | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 6’1 – Outside Hitter – Oconomowoc
Haley Koch Haley Koch MB Oconomowoc | 2022 State WI – 2022 – 6’0 – Right Side Hitter
Oconomowoc has always been a strong program out of southeastern Wisconsin. With Kearns and Koch teaming up from the pins, the Coons were unstoppable Thursday night. They may need to start calling them the “K”oons since those 2 combined for over 20 kills in a 3 set sweep of Oak Creek. Over the season these two have over 400 kills fed by sophomore setter, Lilly Wagner Lilly Wagner 6'0" | S Oconomowoc | 2024 State #42 Nation WI (6’1) who has over 900 assists as she finds a way to utilize all of her weapons.
Grace Grocholski Grace Grocholski 5'10" | OH Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’9 – Outside Hitter – Kettle Moraine
Rebecca Siedenburg Rebecca Siedenburg S Kettle Moraine | 2022 State WI – 2022 – 5’11 – Setter
Kettle Moraine is having quite the season and that is in large part to their upperclassmen. Grocholski has over 400 kills and setter, Rebecca Seidenburg has over 1,000 assists on the season. KM was the only lower seed to make it out of the Quarterfinals and will get to take on #1 seed Oconomowoc who they’ve previously lost to 3 times this season. They were battle-tested against Burlington and they show no signs of slowing down.
Mckenna Wucherer Mckenna Wucherer 6'1" | OH Brookfield Central | 2022 State #1 Nation WI – 2022 – 6’2 – Outside Hitter – Brookfield Central
Riley Angst Riley Angst 5'9" | DS/L Brookfield Central | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’8 – Libero
For BC, most points will start with Angst (Viterbo) and finish with Wucherer (Minnesota). Angst is the libero who has recorded up over 300 digs this season including over 20 in the 5-set barn burner with River Falls. As for the terminator, Wucherer, has almost 400 kills, averaging almost six kills per set. Keep in mind, Wucherer also missed a third of the high school season while competing with the USAV U18 team as their MVP. Brookfield Central has managed to consistently remain a part of the conversation for top teams in Division 1 member of the top five in Class 1A with previous losses to Oconomowoc, River Falls, and Appleton North in this field of 8.
