One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. The team selected for today is the Foster Falcons.
Foster Falcons
The Falcons from the Foster High School out of Richmond had a memorable season in 2021. The team was dominant at the Class 5A, Region III, District 24, tying with powerhouse Fulshear at the top with 15 wins and just one loss. The team led by head coach Morgan Hunter moved past the first round of the playoffs before falling in dramatic fashion to Barbers Hill in the area match. The Falcosn had a 28-15 win record in the season.
This team… LOVE this team!!! Hate that our season ended tonight but this group of girls is special and a loss will never change that! Love you all! Amazing individuals that put together a selfless team! 2021 is definitely a season never to forget! ❤️❤️ #WIT pic.twitter.com/ioVQCM0Vem

Players to Watch:
Jackie Onyechi – Middle Blocker – Club: Houston Juniors – 2024
An extremely athletic middle blocker, Jackie Onyechi was Foster’s most prominent player at the net. Standing at 5’11”, she benefited from her tremendous vertical to be a dominant force for the Falcons and oftentimes her great reach on offense bailed the team out of difficult moments. Capable from hitting form the right as well, Onyechi is also a very efficient blocker, especially because of her good reading and timing. She ended the season as Foster’s leader in kills (277) and blocks (101) and still produced 32 digs.
Koryn Johnson – Outside Hitter – Club: Texas Tornados – 2023
Koryn Johnson might not be the tallest or the most physical hitter you’ll ever see, but she’s a handful to deal with at the net. The 5’9” outside hitter is also a track athlete and can jump well at the net, but perhaps what makes of her a great offensive player are her willingness to hit hard against any blocks and her ability to understand when and how she should avoid them. Johnson is also a solid backcourt player and has a floater serve that’s difficult to pass. She tallied 261 kills, 53 blocks, 339 digs and 27 aces during the season.
Kalani Vasquez – Libero – Club: Texas Tornados – 2022
An extremely skilled defensive player, Kalani Vasquez led Foster’s backcourt efforts during the season. The 5’4” libero formed a solid backcourt duo with fellow senior defensive specialist Eliana Zepeda which was one of the strengths of the Falcons. Vasquez is impeccable with her serve receiving and is also an excellent defender with her superior positioning and great ball control. She clearly understands her role with the team and takes the lead to pass any free ball or overpass coming her team’s way. A Texas A&M – Kingsville commit, Vasquez produced a team-high 444 digs (4.2) set and 26 aces this season.
