One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. This time, we’ll analyze the Spring Lions.
Spring Lions
The Lady Lions represented the Spring High School, located just north of downtown Houston, and saw their season come to an end with a bi-district playoff loss to Grand Oaks. Head coach Stephanie Porter and her players did a solid job in the Class 6A, Region II – District 14, ranking second with 11 wins and three defeats. Their overall win record in the season ended at 14-21.
Good wins for JV and Varsity tonight against Aldine. Only 2 games left. Looking forward to playoffs. Nimitz on Friday for teacher appreciation night. Teachers come out and let us appreciate you!! @AVollyball @SPRINGHIGHLIONS #ALLIN #teachernight pic.twitter.com/EaKx45ziBC

Players to Watch:
Kori Sessions – Outside Hitter – Club: Houston Juniors – 2025
Kori Sessions’ potential is written all over her. Standing at 6’2”, the outside hitter is a force at the net with her powerful offense and big block. Even though there’s still a lot of room for improvement on her game, she does pretty well in two areas which are typically struggles for freshman, having great footwork and good reading of the game. Sessions has really interesting physical tools and is extremely versatile with her game, being able to hit from anywhere at the net and even to set in a rotation with the Lady Lions.
Allana Archie – Middle Blocker – Club: Willowbrook – 2023
Allana Archie is another player in Spring’s roster who stands out for her offensive power. The 6’2” junior middle blocker has an impressive ability to jump, which often puts her in position to hit over opposing blockers. Archie’s offensive game is predicated on her massive power and she’s extremely versatile, being able to hit from the left or the middle as well. She’s also able to put up a big block in front of opposing hitters and also gets to create some damage from the service line with a serve that’s not extremely powerful, but is tricky to pass as it goes down shortly after it crosses the net.
Kaley Ngo – Libero – Club: Allegiance Volleyball – 2022
Kaley Ngo’s relevance to Spring’s game is inversely proportional to her 4’11” frame. The Lady Lions’ senior libero is a giant for her team in the backcourt, starting Spring’s offense with accurate passes and keeping the ball in play with her superior defense. Ngo has great ball control and is always willing to chase balls at the backcourt, making of fer a very active player.
