Though some of these athletes are going to be parting their ways as they go off to college and others are continuing their athletic careers throughout their club season, we are going to dive into the top three stat leaders of digs across our defensive specialist.
Gigi Navarrete– Mother McAuley/ Libero
Navarrete stands at 5’6 and has finished out an outstanding season this year with being seen in 96 sets and successfully securing 598 digs and 36 aces. In addition, she is the leader in the state of Illinois in digs. Navarrete is a new name and a new face to me, however, it is without a doubt that she is a very defensive player when it comes ready for her to step foot out onto the court and do her job. She gets low to the ground and doesn’t hesitate when it comes to coming out on the court and reflecting all of the balls that are attempted on her side of the net. She can be seen as a developing elite player and I look forward to seeing more from Navarrete.
Reeghan Boyer Reeghan Boyer 5'5" | DS/L Montini Catholic | 2022 State IL – Montini Catholic/ Libero
Boyer, a state champ, is closing out her final high school season with playing 86 sets with 443 digs, putting her in the 2nd place spot in digs in the state of Illinois. The 5’6 senior is a very defensive player and her ambition on the court to defend the ball and assist her team in victories is one of her top priority and she manages to do that very well. Boyer has also managed to obtain 518 serve receptions and is just a vital source of defensive skills for the broncos. From her regular season games to her state championship games, Boyer has also brought her A game and haas continued to get better and better every time and that is what we look for in our athletes.
Samantha Falk Samantha Falk DS/L Mother McAuley | 2024 State IL – Mother McAuley/ DS,L
Falk is a athlete whom I have been watching for some time and she just manages to impress me every time I look back into how she is performing out on the court. Falk is a very defensive player, and she is a tough one out on the court. Falk has closed out her high school season, with playing for a team that has finished 2nd in their conference and 1st in the 4A class, and Falk is without a doubt a huge asset to this team. This year she has played in 96 sets, securing 358 digs, which has put her in the position to sitting 3rd in digs across the entire state of Illinois. Falk is going to be a rising elite player and I look forward to seeing her play during this club season.
