The Yakima Valley SunDome once again hosts the season-ending tournament and competition in the 1B and 2B divisions are the first to start. The brackets will evolve as teams move forward during the day but here are three early matches you should follow in those divisions.
1B
Republic vs Wilson Creek – 8am
This early matchup will take place in the opening round of the State Championship. The Lady Tigers from the Republic High School had a prolific regular season with 13 wins and just three losses on their way to win the 1B Northeast District. The Devils form the Wilson Creek High School competed in the 1B Central Washington District and ended the regular season with eight wins and six losses. Junior outside hitter Lindsey Short Lindsey Short 6'1" | MB Republic | 2023 State WA and senior middle blocker Kaci Harman are two of Republic’s most exciting players while Wilson Creek relies a lot on their trio of seniors formed by Ella True, Alessia Gilley and Kesiah Cook.
Crosspoint vs Mary Walker – 11.45am
Crosspoint and Mary Walker made it to the second round of the State Championship through different paths. While the Warriors from the Crosspoint High School out of Bremerton played just six matches (and won four of them to finish second in the 1B/2B Sea-Tac District, the Chargers from the Mary Walker High School out of Springdale were on the court as many as 25 times and walk away as the winners in 20 of those occasions to rank third in the 1B Northeast District. Crosspoint has long relied on the superior defensive skills of senior libero Addy Schmidt and outside hitter Ella-Leigh Rockwell while Mary Walker typically gets great offensive production from juniors Audrey Wellhausen (middle blocker) and Kylie Erickson (outside hitter).
2B
Colfax vs Wahkiakum – 9.45am
The Lady Bulldogs from the Colfax High School went undefeated on district play, winning all of their four matches at the 2B Bi-County District. The team counted on great production from senior Asher Cai and setter Justice Brown to end the regular season with a 7-1 win record. The Lady Mules from Wahkiakum had a 6-4 record at the 2B Central District and an 8-11 campaign overall. Some of their most prolific players are senior setter Courtney Carlson and senior outside hitter Megan Leitz.
