The WesKing District Tournament match between the Newport Knights and the Issaquah Eagles is a great option for Tuesday, November 9th:
Newport vs Issaquah – 7pm
Ranked fourth and fifth in the competitive 4A KingCo district, the teams meet as part of the WesKing Ditrict tournament. The Lady Knights from the Newport High School in Bellevue will be looking to bounce back after they lost to Bothell and to improve on their 7-8 district and 9-14 overall record. The Lady Eagles from the Issaquah High School are also coming from an upset, a 3-2 loss to Jackson over the weekend, and currently hold an 8-5 district win record and a 14-8 campaign for their season.
Players to Watch – Newport
Arden Carnrite Arden Carnrite 5'8" | OH Newport | 2023 State WA – Outside Hitter – Club: Sudden Impact – 2023
An explosive 5’9” outside hitter, Arden Carnrite Arden Carnrite 5'8" | OH Newport | 2023 State WA is having yet another great season with Newport. The junior has been unstoppable on offense and is by far the team’s top producer at the net with 287 kills (four per set). Her solid all-around is also showing once again as Carnrite has been extremely efficient in every other skills, ranking second in aces (33) and third in passes (218).
Darby Kelly – Outside Hitter – Club: Sudden Impact – 2024
Carnrite is in good company at the pin for Newport as her fellow outside hitter Darby Kelly is one of the most promising players in the position in the class of 2024. Taller (5’10”) and longer, she’s still getting adjusted to the team but has already been able to become the Lady Knights’ second-best player on offense, with 165 kills. Kelly is also a force from the service line, leading the team in that department with 53 aces (0.7 per set), and a solid serve-receiver, having registered as many as 209 successful passes.
Players to Watch – Issaquah
Ella Wimmer – Outside Hitter – Club: Sudden Impact – 2023
A teammate of Carnrite in their club team Sudden Impact, Ella Wimmer is, in a certain way, her equivalent at Issaquah as an undersized (5’8”) junior outside hitter who uses her great technique and physical tools to produce. Wimmer is also her team’s top scorer with 238 kills (3.3 per set), but also leads the Lady Eagles in digs (202), passes (276) and aces (47).
Mackenzie Cheever – Middle Blocker – Club: Northwest Juniors – 2022
A 6’1” middle blocker with tons of upside, Mackenzie Cheever is Issaquah’s most dominant player at the net. Extremely long and athletic, she can make a difference on both sides of the ball and is really difficult to stop on offense with her great reach – she’s also a very good blocker. Cheever ranks second in kills for Issaquah only behind Wimmer at 139 and leads the team in blocks (43) and places third in aces (28). She also works on her game on the sand, making of her a more complete player.
