Their head coach, Nicole Whitson, played for BRAVO in her earlier years then continued as a setter for Kentucky Wesleyan and was a manager at Western Kentucky University for three years. With all of this knowledge, these players’ potentials are through the roof! Here are some key players for the 16 Black squad.
Makenna Rine- A sophomore from Warren East High School, Makenna Rine will make an impact on this squad because of her ability to play every position. Rine may look small on the outside, but this girl can truly jump out of the gym which makes her a force offensively. Her platform is also very smooth, and she makes the most athletic moves defensively which clearly shows she is needed in the back row too. It will be interesting to see where Coach Whitson puts this all around stud!
Jamie Phelps- Another player from Warren East High School, Jamie Phelps will help her team offensively because of her live arm and determined attitude. Phelps was a big impact for the Lady Raiders where she had 153 kills and 41 blocks in the middle blocker position. She is one of those quiet leaders that won’t be loud or boisterous but will do her job and block that ball in a high intensity match. A big congrats to Phelps as well where she was recently invited to compete with Team USA in Barcelona, Spain next July!
Mariel Langley- A right side hitter from Bowling Green High School, Langley will add some spunk to the 16 Black squad. Langley recently played sand volleyball before high school ball, so she has tons of beach knowledge under her belt which you see in her play on the right side. She’s just one of those kids that creates a positive culture on the court, and you want her on the floor at all times.
Skylar Honan- The second part of the duo from Bowling Green High School, Skylar Honan adds depth and height to the middle hitting position. Honan is new to the game, but that’s what makes her an interesting player. Her form may not be technically sound, but she will ball out for you hitting and blocking. She will definitely be one of the go to hitters for this 16 Black squad!
Samantha Whittinghill- If you see one girl smiling on the court, it’s probably this setter from Greenwood High School, Samantha Whittinghill! She’s playing up in the 16s as a freshman and killing it because of her positive mentality and attitude on the court. You can just tell she’s constantly lifting her teammates up and simply making people better. Whittinghill will most likely set a 5’1 for this squad, and she’s definitely the right person for the job because of her ability to spread the offense around from any angle.
