Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most.
We are proud to announce our Second Team All State in this article series. We will be posting a few athletes at a time in order to give enough credit to each player. We are very proud of each player and everyone who helped them reach their goals this year. These players are being picked due to their individual performance on their teams this high school season. This next article in this series is devoted to the Middles. These two young ladies are our picks for 2nd Team All- State in the 2023 class.
2nd Team All State Selection: Middle
Julia McLendon Julia McLendon 5'11" | MB Deer Creek | 2023 State OK [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Deer Creek/Club: Oklahoma Charge/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Julia is currently ranked as our 25th best overall prospect and 6th best middle in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is one of the leaders for Deer Creek High School and one of the best clubs in the Sooner state in OK Charge. She helped lead her varsity team to a 23-8 overall record and a birth in the 6A Oklahoma State playoffs. I was able to watch her in person at the Bishop McGuinness tournament and was very impressed with what I saw. Julia has great size and a powerful frame and hits the corners really well to score for her squad. When she gets on top of a ball this young lady can throttle it with the best in the state. She showed a lot of leadership as an upperclassman this year and this is why she has earned 2nd Team All-State. Please congratulate her on the amazing achievement.
2nd Team All State Selection: Middle
Audrey Bird Audrey Bird 5'11" | MB State OK [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Audrey is currently ranked as our 21st best overall prospect and 5th best middle in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays for Edmond Santa Fe High School and also club for Oklahoma Peak Performance. We profiled her earlier in the year when we wrote an article on her varsity team and here is what we wrote, “She drives her feet extremely hard toward her setter during her approach. It is refreshing to see a young middle operate that way as it will help her stay potent offensively. Her long arms make her a threat on both ends of the game. She has a super strong upper body and we love how she uses it to score for her teams. Miss Bird has every chance to move up the rankings with her amazing offensive skill-set. Out of the middle she can hit toward both zones with power and that makes it very difficult for any opposing middle to stop her. We are excited to have her in our Prep Dig Family and look forward to watching her junior season. Please help us congratulate her on the honor she just earned.” I watched her show out in person at the Bishop McGuinness tourney and she played lights out. On a team that is riddled with stars, Miss Bird stands out. I really like her ceiling and think she can move up in the rankings when we update them in a few weeks. She showed us how much of a stud she is this season and this is why we have chosen her for our 2nd Team All-State award. Please help us congratulate her on earning the prestigious award.
