On December 11, our destination was the FAST Warm Up, one of the most traditional and prestigious season-opening events in the Houston Arena. The FAST Warm Up is a Mammoth of a tournament, reuniting 500 teams from 13 different divisions in five different venues in the region.
For this event, we targeted the 15 Open Division and spent the day at the Texas Tornados Club, where six of the ten teams competing in the division were playing. Over the next few days, we’ll feature some of the most interesting prospects we spotted and now it’s time to take a look at the outside hitters who did a lot for their teams.
Alexis Hinton – AP 15 Adidas – HS: Lake Travis – 2025
A long and athletic outside hitter, Alexis ‘Lillie’ Hinton is AP 15 Adidas’ most used scoring option. She’s very smart in using her length on offense and manages to frequently hit over the top of the block, targeting the end line, to score points. Hinton is also a very good server and, as someone who also plays beach volleyball, has developed a solid all-around game, which allows her to help the team on passing and defense.
Daniela Laing – HJV 15 Premier – HS: St. John’s – 2025
An extremely technical and intelligent player, Daniela Laing brings a lot of value to the teams she plays at. She’s not the tallest or most powerful hitter at 5’8”, but knows her way around the net and doesn’t struggle to score points with smart plays and hitting around the block – while making very few errors. Her main contributions come in the backcourt as she plays a central role in passing and defense with her great technical skills, what makes her an option at the defensive specialist role as well. Laing also has a dangerous floater who’s a nightmare for opponents to deal with.
Carsyn Jefferson – Katy United 15 Adidas – HS: Paetow – 2025
Carsyn Jefferson’s physical tools indicate she’ll have a bright future in the sport. Not many hitters in her age have an arm as heavy and fast as hers, something she also developed as a shot put thrower in high school. Jefferson has a lot of strength on her lower body as well and besides being 5’10” and having a lot of power on her arm, she also knows how to tool the block in any situation. She can hit from the right too and is solid on the backcourt as well.
