On December 11, our destination was the FAST Warm Up, one of the most traditional and prestigious season-opening events in the Houston Arena. The FAST Warm Up is a Mammoth of a tournament, reuniting 500 teams from 13 different divisions in five different venues in the region.
For this event, we targeted the 15 Open Division and spent the day at the Texas Tornados Club, where six of the ten teams competing in the division were playing. Over the next few days, we’ll feature some of the most interesting prospects we spotted and now it’s time to take a look at the right siders that stood out.
Jordyn Sims – AVA TX 15 Adidas – HS: Friendswood – 2025
Jordyn Sims seems to make the most of the fact that she’s part of a great club program in the Absolute Volleyball Academy (AVA) but also of an excellent high school team in Friendswood. Her game is very well-developed and she’s capable of playing as a right sider or a middle blocker with similar efficiency. Sims appears to be a perfect fit to play on the right as she’s tall at 6’2”, extremely physical and is not shy of using her massive power to overcome blockers standing in front of her. She can hit quick sets behind the setter and has also showed an interesting ability to improvise and find solutions when conditions are not ideal for a hard hit.
Grace Berry – AP 15 Adidas – HS: St. Andrew’s Episcopal – 2025
Grace Berry is one of those teenagers who excel at whatever sport they’re thrown at. She played basketball and competed in track and field as well in the last high school season but is very good on a volleyball court as well. The 5’11” Berry is extremely smooth with her game and plays her role on the right for Austin Performance 15 Adidas very well. She has good reach and can put a lot of power on the ball, but what best defines her intelligent game is probably her ability to hit around opposing blockers and find unlikely angles when hitting crosscourt. She’s also a very good blocker due to her reading of the game and her ability to make the right move and put pressure on opponents with her hands.
Nicole Teerman – Katy United 15 Adidas – HS: Cinco Ranch – 2025
A six-footer who can play as a right sider or in the middle, Nicole Teerman is still developing her game but her high potential is undeniable. She will get a lot better physically and technically, especially working with a great high school team in Cinco Ranch and a solid club in Katy United, but what indicates a bright future for her is the fact that she already makes the right decisions on the court more often than not, showing great understanding of the game. Teerman has good reach on offense and is capable of scoring from any of the three positions at the net. She can also put a big block in front of opposing hitter and makes their lives a lot harder.
