On December 11, our destination was the FAST Warm Up, one of the most traditional and prestigious season-opening events in the Houston Arena. The FAST Warm Up is a Mammoth of a tournament, reuniting 500 teams from 13 different divisions in five different venues in the region.
For this event, we targeted the 15 Open Division and spent the day at the Texas Tornados Club, where six of the ten teams competing in the division were playing. We’ve spent the last days featuring some of the most interesting prospects we spotted and in this final piece we’ll present the setters who ran the show on their teams.
Caelyn Dumas – HJV 15 Premier – HS: Paetow – 2025
A very complete player, Caelyn Dumas contributed all across the board to her high school team Paetow, ending her freshman season with 351 assists, 245 digs and 219 kills. With her Houston Juniors club team, she’s more focused on setting and excels on that role, running a fast-paced offense with excellent accuracy and consistency and intelligent distribution. A 5’9” left-handed setter, she always keeps opponents guessing due to her ability of dumping on two and is also an efficient blocker. Dumas’ great all-around game expands through the backcourt as she’s an excellent server and remarkable defender. One of the keys for her efficiency on defense is her posture as she remains as long as possible on the tips of her toes and is always ready to move and chase the ball.
Brooklyn Myers – AP 15 Adidas – HS: Johnson – 2025
An extremely reliable and consistent setter, Brooklyn Myers delivers exactly what a coach would want from a setter. She’s extremely accurate with her locations and does an excellent job in involving as many hitters involved as possible. Myers clearly has a very high volleyball IQ and that allowed her to have a prominent role with her high school team Johnson as a freshman, producing the team’s second-best mark of 266 assists last season. She’s also an extremely efficient setter and does good work on defense.
Taylor Tolleson – AVA TX 15 Adidas – HS: Clear Springs – 2025
Taylor Tolleson is a setter with great hands, meaning she does a great job when working with less-than-ideal passes. One of the main traits of her setting style is a strong tendency to set against the flow, something that’s not so common at this age and that often catches opponents off guard. Also a very good defender, the 5’7” Tolleson also seems to be a great team player as she frequently encourages her teammates on the court.
