Five Class Of ’24 Setters You Need To Watch

Five Class Of ’24 Setters You Need To Watch

Moving right along with our positional breakdowns, here are five setters in the class of 2024 that you should watch this coming club season.

[player_tooltip player_id="110487" first="Mya" last="Ball"], 6-0, [program_tooltip program_id='430155' first='Team' last='Pineapple'], Angola

The tallest on this list, Mya uses her length and athleticism to get to passes that the others on this list just can't get. Her smooth release and high hands are only bested by her set choices in the offense. She also plays above-average defense for her position, a trait that seems to be most common among the elite setters.

[player_tooltip player_id="110484" first="Olivia" last="Gisslen"], 5-9, Empowered, Carroll

High and deceptive hands make Olivia taller than her actual frame. Her ability to run a fast offense at this age is already a plus, and with multiple weapons at Empowered at her fingertips (sorry, not sorry), she has plenty to go around. She jump sets every ball, which to me is a lost art in modern setter training.

[player_tooltip player_id="110513" first="Emery" last="Moore"], 5-9, Circle City, North Central

The first of two setters from Circle, you'll find Emery on the 16 Purple (16-1) squad. Her natural abilities got her this far, and her training will take her the rest of the way. She's hyper athletic, fast, and plays the hardest out of all of the setters listed here. Miss Moore is also lethal from the service line, and can control a match like no other.

[player_tooltip player_id="110509" first="Macy" last="Hinshaw"], 5-9, Circle City, Hamilton Southeastern

Perennially playing up a year, Macy can be found on Circle's 17 Purple (17-1) roster. Her thin frame is deceiving; she's very athletic, smooth, fast, and knows whom to set in what situation. Her setting situation in high school had her limited to only three rotations (a modified 5-1), so her defense and serving are above average for setters in this class. Now that she has all of these weapons around her, I'm curious to see what she can do with all of them, and how far she can take them this club season.

[player_tooltip player_id="110491" first="Leah" last="Richmond"], 5-8, Academy, Lawrence North

The most unassuming of setters, Leah is the definition of a setter who does the dirty work and gets the job done. For me, Leah is the strongest of the five listed here, as she can set any ball to any attacker from any spot on the floor. I like her demeanor; she is a complete lead-by-example kid that goes at 100% regardless of the score. She's also pinpoint from behind the service line, adding to the never-taking-plays-off mentality.
