One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person over the past few months. Today’s subject will be the Glenda Dawson Eagles.
Glenda Dawson Eagles
The Eagles from the Glenda Dawson High School in the Pearland area remained alive until the regional semifinals, when they eventually fell to Ridge Point in four sets. A solid defensive team, the group of players coached by Lauren Leth cruised past the Class 6A, Region III – District 23 with an undefeated campaign of 12 wins and ended the season with an overall record of 41-5.
Sweep over Kingwood and moving on!

Players to Watch:
Kamryn Scroggins Kamryn Scroggins 5'9" | S Dawson | 2022 State TX – Setter – Club: Houston Juniors – 2022
Dawson’s main strength is probably its team play, but if we were to highlight a single player it would probably be Kamryn Scroggins Kamryn Scroggins 5'9" | S Dawson | 2022 State TX . The 5’9” setter’s distribution and technique are what make this team a special one to watch on offense as she uses all of her hitters really well and is not afraid of taking risks to catch opponents off-guard. Very calm and focused, Scroggins, who ranks 72nd in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, is also an excellent defender and a dangerous server. A University of New Orleans commit, she was really productive in her final season with the Lady Eagles, delivering 1,199 assists (10.2 per set) and producing 392 digs, 110 kills, 53 aces and 46 blocks.
Kylie Nance – Outside Hitter – Club: Houston Stellar – 2022
Dawson has, indeed, a well-diversified offense, but when the game is on the line, you can bet it’s Kylie Nance who’s getting the ball. The outside hitter is team’s go-to scoring option and typically responds positively to the challenge, scoring in big moments and making very few mistakes. She’s probably a little bit undersized for the position at 5’8”, but has plenty of power on her right arm and a very high volleyball IQ to score in bunches. She’s also a very skilled defensive player, making of her a great fit for the Lady Eagles’ playing system. Nance easily led Dawson’s offense with 378 kills and in two other relevant categories with 489 passes and 68 aces, besides ranking second in digs with 354.
Patience Lewis – Defensive Specialist – Club: Houston Stellar – 2022
Defense is a big part of Dawson’s success and Patience Lewis offers great contribution in that area of the game. The 5’3” defensive specialist typically comes in when the team’s opposite is at the back and, despite being on the court in just three rotations, is a high producer for the Lady Eagles. Extremely dynamic, Lewis is an excellent passer, freeing up the hitters from that responsibility, and also performs really well on defense and from the service line. She was instrumental in serve-receiving, producing the team’s second-best mark of 426 passes, ranked fourth in defense with 283 and still registered 30 aces.
