Players drove from Houston, San Antonio, Amarillo, Austin, Oklahoma, and all around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area to test their skills and showcase their talents amongst some of the state’s best players to college coaches and our scouts. The following players stood out to us and should be given a look or two from many colleges. This next volume will cover some amazing middles that attended.
Kinzley Brown-Riggins Kinzley Brown-Riggins 6'2" | MB Crowley | 2024 State TX [2024] 6-1 Middle (HS: Crowley/Club: NRG/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kinzley is currently listed as the 75th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Kinz plays at Crowley High School and also club for NRG out of the North Texas Region. She shined amongst the older players and shows so much natural power in her upper body. Every court coach was super impressed with the natural ability to play the position. The height of ceiling that she has will make any college coach salivate as it is beyond measure. What I saw this Sunday at the Expo shows me that she deserves to move up our state rankings and I cannot wait to update them this month. Some players just have that it factor and she is definitely one of them. Coaches!!!! Write her name down and add it to your short list of middles to watch this club season. What makes her even more special is the fact that she can play right side also and hit a high tempo along with her quicks out of the middle. If you need a shut down blocker, look no further.
Kennedy Washington [2024] 6-0 Middle (HS: Red Oak/Club: Texas Advantage /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kennedy is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but she will absolutely be listed when I update them later this month. She plays high school volleyball at Red Oak High School and also club for the nationally recognized Texas Advantage Volleyball. This young lady is one heck of a weapon for any high level team to have as she is flat out explosive from every quick tempo but especially on the slide. Two of our middle court coaches pointed her out to me immediately when we went to the position drills. She is not only fast, but jumps out of the gym. Just when you think she is late on her slide approach and the ball is pushed too far to the pin, she flies an catches up to the ball with incredible timing to blast on the opponent. Her power comes from a tremendously fast arm swing. What I witnessed on Sunday at the Expo had a few college coaches buzzing with excitement. This is only the beginning as she will have lots of interest this club season. Stay tuned for more on Miss Washington as I will be watching very closely.
Hanna Rubis [2023] 5-10 Middle (HS: Gunter/Club: Frisco Flyers/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Hannah is currently an unranked prospect according to our rankings but what we saw this weekend at the Expo made us open our eyes wide with excitement. We have her now on our watch list and intend to see if she can make it on our rankings in the update this month. She plays at Gunter High School and also for the up and coming Frisco Flyers program out of the North Texas Region. What she might lack in height for the position, she makes up for it in speed along the net, vertical, hang-time, and pure power. A lot of middles use only arm swing to add some pace to the attack, but when you watch Hanna hit, you can see just how much she uses her core in the attack. The other things that are very noticeable from a coach’s perspective are the angles at which she hits her quick sets with. She is able to hit around any block with some fantastic cut shots to both sides of the court. This is one reason why she scores at such a high clip for any team she plays on. She showed tons of promise this weekend at the Expo and I give my thumbs up to any school that would take a chance on a slightly undersized middle. She will definitely help a college roster.
There are more volumes of middles that stood out from what I saw at the Expo. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
