Continue ReadingI will be writing a series of articles on what I saw from these wonderful players in Carrollton on Sunday. Players drove from Houston, San Antonio, Amarillo, Austin, Oklahoma, and all around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area to test their skills and showcase their talents amongst some of the state’s best players to college coaches and our scouts. The following players stood out to us and should be given a look or two from many colleges. This next volume are more setters that stole the show at the Expo.
Drew Bridges [2024] 5-10 Setter (HS: Guyer/Club: Tejas/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Drew is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but we have put her on our watch list and will keep our eye on her to see if she is able to etch her name in the next update. She plays at the vaunted Guyer high school program and also club for Tejas out of the North Texas Region. She stepped into a major role this season as a sophomore and was able to deliver great sets to some talented hitters. She tallied 508 assists and 147 digs in her first season as a starter on varsity. We watched her this past weekend at the Expo and she showed some true talent. She showed a lot of power in her ability to push the ball across the court on an out of system set. Her location is very repeatable due to her hands staying like a mirror image of each other upon release. But I love her ability to shoot a thirty-one in perfect quick tempo to her middles. She is an up and comer in the setting position and we intend to keep an eye on her as she progresses. Stay tune for more on Miss Bridges.
Ruby Rumohr [2024] 5-9 Setter (HS: Blum/Club: NRG/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Rubyis currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but we definitely have our eye on her as we liked what we saw from her in person. She plays high school volleyball at Blum High School and also club for NRG. This young lady has an infectious smile and great attitude to go with it. She was one of the most coachable athletes in the gym last weekend at the Expo. This young lady is a multi-sport athlete as she stars in volleyball, basketball, softball and track. As a setter I as impressed with her soft hands and athleticism as I ran one of her drills in the position portion of the expo. She is no stranger to accolades as she earned 1A district 15 region 2 MVP and also earned her way onto the TGCA All State Team as a freshman. She plays with a lot of fire and is someone any school could use as a leader. I watched as she encouraged strangers on the court and cheered for others. These qualities are some that we look for to separate good players from great players. I will be watching her club season closely and I think college coaches should also. She has something about her that college coaches will fall in love with.
Reagan Fifer Reagan Fifer 6'2" | S Liberty Christian | 2023 State TX [2023] 6-2 Setter/Right Side (HS: Liberty Christian/Club: Tejas/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Reagan is currently listed as the 111th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a lengthy setter and right side out of the north Texas area. We just profiled her again a couple of months ago and nominated her for an All-State award. Watching her in person last weekend at the Expo just solidified what we already knew. She is legit. This lefty stands tall and excels both in the front row and back row. She dominated on the older courts and showed true talent delivering amazing sets to many awesome hitters. I love how smoothly the ball comes out of her hands. There is not a set that she cannot accomplish with ease. A lot of setters with longer extremities have issues getting the ball out quick but not Reagan. Her ball comes out fast and a lot of schools will love what they see. Add her name to your short list for this season and you won’t be disappointed.
There are more volumes of the setters that stood out from what I saw at the Expo. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
