Continue ReadingThe club volleyball season had few, but quite exciting tournaments in the few weeks between the end of the high school calendar and the Holidays. The level of play displayed in those events has certainly set the field for great competition during the next several months across the state of Texas.
One of the top tournaments held in the Houston area in the period was the Skyline Classic #1, which reunited 12 17s and eights 18s teams in the courts of the traditional Houston Skyline club on December 18.
PrepDig.com was closely following the action and will, over the next couple of weeks, provide reports on the most promising players competing in the event.
Here are some of the right siders that showed some intriguing potential in the 18 Division:
Lauren Moore – Fort Bend Jrs 18 Legacy – HS: Fort Bend George Bush – 2022
Don’t be fooled by Lauren Moore’s 5’7” frame. The Fort Bend Juniors right sider may not be as tall as many would expect, but she’s extremely explosive and capable of causing damage with her offensive game. Moore is a great leaper and has an incredibly heavy arm, but she’s also smart enough to tool the block when that’s the best option. Capable of playing as an outside hitter, defensive specialist and even setter, Moore is also a prolific blocker.
Kharys Grice – Asics Willowbrook 18 Gold – HS: Klen Cain – 2022
Kharys Grice’s versatility is possibly her most special asset as a player. During the Skyline Classic, she was used as a right sider, but was also seen scoring at a high rate from the middle and the left. The 5’10” prospect has great footwork and combines that with excellent leaping ability and a heavy arm. She’s extremely effective when hitting the slide set and is also a very good blocker. Grice is a Prairie View A&M commit.
Miah Trevino – Texas Hurricane 18 Cat 5 – HS: Ball – 2022
Miah Trevino is an unorthodox right sider, whose production to her teams is not the typical one of players in the position. A left-handed, Trevino is not very tall or explosive, but is extremely consistent and reliable. She might not score a lot of points, but is extremely solid on the backcourt, being an asset to her Texas Hurricane team when it comes to serving, passing and digging.
