In the coming days, we’ll have a rising stars article and a few positional breakdowns. Today, however, we shine a light on five newcomers that will be turning heads in the coming club season.
Addi Rains Addi Rains 5'5" | DS/L Yorktown | 2024 State #157 Nation IN , 5-5 DS/L, Munciana, Yorktown
Continuing the long tradition of exceptional liberi at Yorktown is Addi, who you can find at Indiana’s passing academy, also known as Munciana. Her talent starts with her great footwork. She stays on her feet longer than any defender I’ve seen in quite some time. Her upper body is quiet, leading to a consistently perfect pass out of serve receive. On defense, her anticipation puts her exactly where the ball is all the time. If she’s not the heir apparent as the ’bro at Yorktown, I don’t know who is.
Chloe Eastburn Chloe Eastburn 5'7" | DS/L Center Grove | 2024 State IN , 5-7 DS/L, Academy, Center Grove
A recent transfer from Whiteland, Chloe is a left-back genius who does a lot of the dirty work on defense to make up for her teammates’ lack of skill. Like most great defenders, she anticipates well, can take up half the court in serve receive, and is the general of the defense. She was the ’bro for Academy’s 15-1 last year, and looks to be the ’bro again on 16-1 this spring. I would love to say that she’s defeated all challengers for the special jersey, but she’s so far ahead of any other defenders at Academy that I can’t see her giving up that position any time soon.
Breonna Goss Breonna Goss 5'11" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State IN , 5-11 MB, Munciana, Hamilton Southeastern
I remember Breonna in the fall of ’20 dominating at the JV level. Coach Young (HSE) then told me that she was a freshman at the time. With all of the bigs in front of her on varsity, it made sense for her to continue to play instead of rotting on the bench on varsity. With all of those high-level bigs graduated, it’s her turn next fall. She’s attacking above ten feet, loves hitting every shot in front of the setter, and can block anything thrown her way. Such a smooth and athletic kid, it would not surprise me if she started getting college attention this coming spring, as she is that much more mature as a middle than most of the others in this, or any, graduating class in Indiana.
Aesha Vogt Aesha Vogt 5'8" | OH Faith Christian | 2024 State IN , 5-8 OH, Boiler Juniors, Faith Christian
A six-rotation passer, Aesha can and will control most parts of the game for 16-1 at Boiler Juniors. Her passing is excellent, she puts balls away regularly, defends at an above-average rate, and is tough from behind the service line. She’s part of the group in the Lafayette area that won an AAU championship a couple of years ago, and they just keep getting better. Aesha might be the best of the bunch for her collection of skills and her ability to use all to her advantage.
Jersey Loyer Jersey Loyer 5'10" | OH Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran | 2024 State IN , 5-10 OH, Summit, Concordia
From the Fort Wayne area, Jersey approaches the attack like she’s on a runway. Cleared for takeoff, she puts a pace behind the ball that is just not seen at this age. Her aggression has her as one of the hardest hitting attackers in this class, and her defense and serve receive are just as important to her. It’s not just power with her, though, as she has every shot in the book. I hope I get a chance to watch her in person during club season, as it’s clear she’s already crushed all opponents at the high school level.
