Nets Over Texas #1 – Teams to Follow: Hou Stellar 18 Elite

<p>Another top tournament is coming up in the Lone Star State as this week it will be time for the opening stop of the Net Over Texas event. The two-day tournament will feature 97 teams playing across three club venues in the Houston area – Willowbrook, Houston Skyline and Woodlands Revolution.</p> <p>The 16s teams will all play on Saturday while the 17s and 18s, which are paired in a single division, will see the court on Sunday. We are planning to cover the 16 Division in person and bring you our lists of reports the following week, so as we prepare for the event, we’re publishing some previews for the 17/18 Division over the week.</p> <p>Today’s featured team is <strong>Hou Stellar 18 Elite, </strong>the top squad from the Houston Stellar Volleyball Club out of Pasadena.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Players to Watch:</strong></p> <p><strong>Sophie Ocampo – Outside Hitter – HS: Kingwood – 2022</strong></p> <p>A long and athletic outside hitter who can do-it-all on a volleyball court, Sophie Ocampo is capable of carrying any team’s offense while also significantly contributing on the backcourt. A 6’3” prospect, she’s hard to stop at the net because of her tremendous reach and smart shot selection while also been extremely reliable and versatile, scoring from the right and the backcourt as well. Highlighted in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Phenom List, she was the centerpiece of her high school team Kingwood over the last few months, ending her senior season with 413 kills, 402 digs, 782 passes, 60 blocks and 31 aces. She has recently committed to the University of Texas at Arlington.</p> <p><iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/15260118/61d40a88f31cb40ad48ef28f" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Meagan Mayfield – Middle Blocker – HS: Barbers Hill – 2022</strong></p> <p>Meagan Mayfield may be outsized by most of her opposing middle blockers as she stands at just 5’10”, but she makes things even at the net by playing with great intelligence and a lot of heart. Also a track and field student-athlete, she’s a great leaper and is never afraid of going up against taller, stronger blockers. Her offense is very powerful and fast and blocking is another area of the game she excels at, mostly due to the aggressiveness she plays. Mayfield, who’s also a very good and consistent server, will play at the collegiate level for Mcneese State.</p> <p><iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/15108296/61d402217bd36208f8805274" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="119924" first="Jordan" last="Maeker"] – Outside Hitter – HS: Pearland – 2022</strong></p> <p>A 5’10” outside hitter with an excellent two-way game, [player_tooltip player_id="119924" first="Jordan" last="Maeker"] is fresh from a solid high school season with Pearland, one in which she tallied 339 kills, 331 digs and 32 aces. She’s one of those players who are able to keep their teams in a good rhythm almost single-handedly because of her ability to provide stability in the back and to score at the net.
