A week after the 18s and 16s divisions conducted Tournament 1, it was the 15s and 17s age groups going at it for their first tournament of the four-tournament schedule. Prep Dig was on hand for both Saturday and Sunday action. Below, we list nine standout middles from the 17s and 15s that we witnessed.
Victoria Davis Victoria Davis 6'2" | MB West Ranch | 2023 CA , Legacy 17 Pyramid – Legacy is a different team when Davis checks in the front row. Her athleticism shines on both sides of the ball. She’s long and puts up a big block that translates into lots of touches. She’s also solid on the attack, with the ability to get up and send them down.
Dior Charles Dior Charles 6'1" | MB Marymount | 2023 State #93 Nation CA , Sunshine 17 LA – Speed and quickness are among Charles’ strengths. She moves very well and is tough to stop whether on the quick attack or on the slide with how well she gets off the ground.
Jasmine Saran Jasmine Saran 6'3" | MB Great Oaks | 2022 #156 Nation CA , Coast 17-1 – Saran has deception to her game. She has a quiet demeanor but is effective in what she does. She has a good touch in the middle and can put it down swinging or read the defense and attack it with a tip shot.
Chase Koepke, Mizuno Long Beach 17 Rockstar – Koepke is a workhorse in the middle. Long Beach’s ball control can fluctuate so Koeple doesn’t get as many swings as she probably should but she runs an effective slide and hits with some power behind it.
Eva Rohrbach Eva Rohrbach 6'3" | MB La Costa Canyon | 2023 State #29 Nation CA , Wave 17 Julianna – Wave has a deep team and weapons all over but seems to be at its best with Rohrbach in the front row. She’s a physical presence that impacts the game offensively and defensively with solid blocking and smart attacking. She’s also a capable server.
Kalyssa Blackshear, Mizuno Long Beach 15 Rockstar – The tallest player on the roster, Blackshear can make things happen in the middle for Mizuno. She gets her share of touches at the net and with her height can often just hit over the block when set.
Pyper Nelson, 949 15 Black – Nelson brings a certain versatility to the lineup. Her main position is in the middle but her skill set is such that she also can play outside like she did for a match. She’s not the tallest middle but she moves well and has strong ball skills for the position.
Olivia Durr, Wave 15 Rachel – Wave’s strengths are at the pins so they don’t run their middles as much as other teams but Durr brings an added element to the front row. She’s quick and can score when her number is called.
Memphis Burnett, Tstreet 15 Curtis – Burnett brings a strong swing to the lineup and a certain physicality that Tstreet needs. She hits with power and can attack both cross court or wrist away.
