2023 Player Rankings Update: Top Setters
In this article:
The state of Michigan has produced some pretty impressive setters over the years.
However, the Class of 2023 may be setting a new standard for the position.
Already with two SEC commits leading the way, the setters in this class are a dynamic group, all with different intangibles that they bring to the floor.
Here’s a closer look at those top setters in the class following our most recent rankings release.
1. Ava Sarafa Ava Sarafa 6'0" | S Marian | 2023 State #14 Nation MI , Marian/Michigan Elite
Sarafa really has found ways to keep getting better and raise her game to an elite level. The Kentucky commit has helped lead Marian to back-to-back state championships. While surrounded by great hitting talent, Sarafa definitely brings the best out of them. She plays at a speed that is hard to match and has tremendous timing with her middles.
2. Erin Kline Erin Kline 6'2" | S Mercy | 2023 State #123 Nation MI , Mercy/Legacy
Kline has really made a name for herself during club seasons with Legacy. She’s guided their 2023s to a national championship and earned herself a spot at Mississippi State in the future. Kline is long (6’2”), but very agile and very composed. She’s got a great feel for the speed of the game and how to put her hitters in position to succeed. She’s definitely one of the best around the country.
3. Erin Madigan Erin Madigan 6'2" | S Dakota | 2023 State MI , Dakota/Legacy
Another long setter, Madigan stands 6’1” and she’s got a very aggressive style of play. Madigan gets herself into the attack mix and really keeps opponents guessing. Her size also plays a big role in the defensive gameplan. Madigan helped Dakota reach the Division 1 state semifinals this year and is a big reason why Dakota will be a team to beat in 2022.
4. Skylar Bump Skylar Bump 5'7" | S Lakewood | 2023 MI , Lakewood/FaR Out
Bump has been the primary setter for Lakewood since she was a freshman. That’s allowed her to play alongside some elite hitters and see where she needs to take her game to get to their level. This past prep season, Bumpy also spent some time on the outside and was able to play well. She had a strong swing and already had well-rounded defensive skills.
5. Corrie Wisser Corrie Wisser 5'10" | S Hopkins | 2023 State MI , Hopkins/MVA
Wisser has been another setter that was able to establish herself as a freshman and has only gotten better from there. Like Bump, Wisser has also moved around and been able to play on the outside and in the back row. She’s got a complete game, including one of the top serves in the state. Her overall athleticism factors in well at setter, where she’s able to make plays that some of her peers can’t.

7. Eve Martin Eve Martin 5'11" | S Lakeland | 2023 State MI , Lakeland/Legacy
