With a pair of huge tournaments coming up next week in the Lone Star Classic and the ATX Showcase, we decided to take a different route this time and focus on an event that didn’t reunite any of the major clubs of the Houston area in order to spot some potential under-the-radar prospects in smaller club teams.
The Houston Force #3 was played in two locations – the Faith West Academy and the Skyline Academy – in the Katy area and featured two divisions – 17s and 18s. We got to watch each of the 16 teams of the 17s Division on the court on Saturday and found some interesting prospects to highlight.
We’ve been doing it over the course of the week and these are some of the right siders that showed tremendous potential in the event.
Houston Force #3 Standouts
Abigail Foller – TX Legacy 17 Black – 2023
Abigail Foller was one of quite a few TX Legacy 17 Black players who showed some interesting potential in the tournament. Very long, the opposite provided a reliable offensive presence on the right side of the net for her team. Foller uses her length really well to make contact with the ball at a very high point and has a very skilled left arm that excels in finding gaps in the opposing block. She can also hit a quick set behind the setter that’s very difficult to stop.
Kenzie Heffley – Texas Twisters 17 Royal – HS: Columbus – 2023
We had watched Kenzie Heffley play in another tournament earlier this season and her performance at the Houston Force #3 just confirmed our initial impression about her. The 5’9” right sider is extremely prolific at the net due to her interesting combination of physical power, finesse and an excellent shot selection. Heffley is one of those hitters who always try to go around the block and she’s very effective in that, especially when hitting a quick set on the right.
Kaitlyn Ross – LCVA Blue 17-1 – 2023
Kaitlyn Ross’ game is still a work in progress but she has shown some intriguing potential. Her physical tools are eye-popping and besides having good size and long arms, Ross is also extremely athletic. She has scored some exciting points with her offense but is still a little inconsistent with it. Her blocking is well-developed as she has good technique and is able to take up considerable space from opposing hitters.
