With a pair of huge tournaments coming up next week in the Lone Star Classic and the ATX Showcase, we decided to take a different route this time and focus on an event that didn’t reunite any of the major clubs of the Houston area in order to spot some potential under-the-radar prospects in smaller club teams.
The Houston Force #3 was played in two locations – the Faith West Academy and the Skyline Academy – in the Katy area and featured two divisions – 17s and 18s. We got to watch each of the 16 teams of the 17s Division on the court on Saturday and found some interesting prospects to highlight.
We’ve been doing it over the course of the week and in our final article about the tournament will feature the most dangerous servers we spotted.
Houston Force #3 Standouts
Bridgett Leonhart – Middle Blocker – Texas Twisters 17 Royal – HS: Morton Ranch – 2023
An undersized middle blocker with tremendous leaping ability and a bazooka of a right arm, Bridgett Leonhart stood out as one of the best servers in the event. She was the only one in the division to venture into a topspin jump serve and showed great proficiency on it. Leonhart can put a lot of pressure on her serves but still keep its trajectory under control, making very few mistakes. She had a few good runs that helped the team in important moments of different matches.
Grace Ramberansingh – Outside Hitter – Houston Force 17-1 – 2023
Grace Ramberansingh’s serving performance is a great reflex of her game as a whole. The Houston Force 17-1 outside hitter is very intense on the court and has a very heavy arm, which she uses to hit and serve. Ramberansingh is very consistent with her serving and creates problems for opponents when she serves from the middle to one of the lines.
Malia Cardella – Outside Hitter – FR Premier Jrs 17 Gold – HS: Clear Lake – 2023
Malia Cardella’s floater was one of the most effective in the tournament and a big part of FR Premier Jrs 17 Gold’s game. The outside hitter has excellent technique from the service line and her serves are somewhat unpredictable after they cross the net, making it very difficult for passers to react. She’s also very consistent and doesn’t make many mistakes from the service line.
