With a pair of huge tournaments coming up next week in the Lone Star Classic and the ATX Showcase, we decided to take a different route this time and focus on an event that didn’t reunite any of the major clubs of the Houston area in order to spot some potential under-the-radar prospects in smaller club teams.
The Houston Force #3 was played in two locations – the Faith West Academy and the Skyline Academy – in the Katy area and featured two divisions – 17s and 18s. We got to watch each of the 16 teams of the 17s Division on the court on Saturday and found some interesting prospects to highlight.
We’ve been doing it over the course of the week and this time we’ll point out some of the most versatile players who were on the court.
Houston Force #3 Standouts
Kendall Wilson – Middle Blocker – Houston Force 17-1 – 2023
Kendall Wilson was one of the most interesting prospects we’ve spotted in the tournament because of her unusual combination of size and technique. A six-footer, she was primarily a middle blocker for Houston Force 17-1 but she went well above and beyond what players in the position typically do. A lethal offensive player, Wilson can hit from the left too. Most impressively, she’s part of her team’s serve-receiving system in all six rotations, even when she’s at the net. Her excellent skill set is completed by a spinning serve that’s hard to pass.

Rylee Sherman – Setter – SEXT 17u Elite – HS: Vidor – 2023
Rylee Sherman’s versatility was the typical case of an excellent player playing multiple roles to help a good team to the best of her abilities. The 5’11” prospect spent more time as a setter, a role in which she thrived with great touch on the ball and smart distribution. When at the net, she’d take advantage of her size and heavy arm to hit. Sherman was placed in the middle to make the most of her blocking skills and is a very good server and defender too.
Madyson Goudeau – Middle Blocker – LCVA Blue 17-1 – HS: Liberty – 2023
Madyson Goudeau is another case of a talented player who wore quite a few different hats in the tournament. Very tall and long, she was a factor for her LCVA Blue 17-1 team at the net with a great blocking game and a reliable offensive production. When at the back, Goudeau would take up the setting duties and she did a good job with that too, running a simple, but efficient and error-free offense for her team.
