That made of the AAU Houston Grand Prix an excellent place to watch and spot some of the most talented, under-the-radar prospects in the region. The two-day event featured seven age divisions and nearly 170 teams competing in three different venues in the area.
We decided to focus on the 15s and spent Saturday afternoon at the Texas Tornados club, in Cypress, where 22 of the 30 teams in the division were in action. We’re highlighting the most impressive players we spotted during the day over the week, and the right siders are set to appear in our last positional article.
Yosola Adeleke – Texas Tornados 15 National – HS: Fulshear – 2025
Originally a middle blocker, Yosola Adeleke showed during the Houston Grand Prix that she may have a bright future playing on the right. The Fulshear high school prospect has excellent physical tools to be an elite point-scorer with a 5’11” frame and excellent athleticism. Adeleke can not only jump well, but also hit the ball hard and is also extremely mobile. Her blocking is very tall, but there’s room for improvement for her in that area, especially in regards to placing her hands better and denying opponents the possibility of tooling her.
Caylee Mejia – Texas Fury 15 Legacy – HS: Weiss – 2025
Caylee Mejia has stood out as one of the most prolific point-scorers in the entire tournament. The 5’11” Texas Fury 15 Legacy player has excellent reach on offense and can hit the ball hard in any direction. She was the player who got set in key moments of the matches and, more often than not, responded well to the challenge. Mejia is also excellent at hitting from the left and can easily be used as an outside hitter too. Her superior physical tools also make of her a very good blocker.
Elka Schamun – Woodlands Revolution 15 Adidas – HS: College Park – 2025
Elka Schamun is listed at 5’10” but she seems even taller because of her long arms. She’s excellent on offense, with a fantastic combination of reach and explosiveness. Schamun can hit the ball hard and is very precise and efficient when hitting angle or line. She’s also a very good blocker, with size and aggressiveness when placing her hands across the net. Two other things that stand out in her game are her quick feet, which allow her to always be in a position to hit, and her ability to remain alert and make digs near the net.
