Continue ReadingThe first weekend of February brought one of the most anticipated club volleyball tournaments annually held in the state of Texas, the Adidas Lone Star Classic.
This year’s location for the 18s tournament, which served as a qualifier for the 2022 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship, was the Austin Convention Center and it attracted as many as 178 teams, including several from other states, across its four divisions.
The teams from the Lone Star State were among the top performers in the tournament, finishing first in all four divisions, and over the next days, we’ll honor their campaigns, featuring the top two finishers of each division in specific articles.
Today we’ll present the second-placed team in the 18 Liberty division:
DaKine Warriors 18 Surf
The team from the DaKine Volleyball Club from the state of Washington was the only outside of Texas to finish in the top two in any of the four divisions. The club from Tacoma advanced all the way to the gold bracket final with a campaign of six wins and three losses.

Key Players
Kristeen Copeland – Middle Blocker – HS: Auburn Riverside – 2022
Kristeen ‘Krisee’ Copeland is one of the top middle blockers in the state of Washington. Standing at 6’1’, she plays a high-energy game and is always a threat at the net because of her well-diversified offense, which includes the ability to hit a few different sets. She has a good presence at the net with blocking as well and is a very good server, being able to help her teams in a lot of different ways. Copeland made it to the Washington Coaches Association All-State team as an honorable mention in her last high school season with Auburn Riverside. She will play for Westminster College in the next phase of her career.
Kate Piasecki – Setter/Right Sider – HS: Charles Wright – 2022
A very technical and versatile six-footer, Kate Piasecki can do it all on the right side of the court. She does an excellent job as a setter when at the backcourt but also becomes a very efficient and prolific scorer when at the net. Piasecki’s well-rounded also includes great serving and defensive skills. Her last high school season with Charles Wright was excellent as she produced 519 assists, 192 kills, 102 aces, 117 blocks and 358 digs on her way to make it to the Washington Coaches Association All-State team as an honorable mention.
Hannah Couch – Libero – HS: Auburn Riverside – 2022
Hannah Couch is the defensive rock of DaKine Warriors 18 Surf. The dynamic 5’7” libero is extremely consistent with her game and provides great stability for the teams she plays for. Her ball control is excellent and Couch gets to touch on so many balls on defense because of her great positioning. She also helps her teams on the offensive side of the game with her dangerous serves. Couch made it to the Washington Coaches Association All-State first team in the last high school season with Auburn Riverside.
