This year’s location for the 18s tournament, which served as a qualifier for the 2022 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship, was the Austin Convention Center and it attracted as many as 178 teams, including several from other states, across its four divisions.
The teams from the Lone Star State were among the top performers in the tournament, finishing first in all four divisions, and over the next days, we’ll honor their campaigns, featuring the top two finishers of each division in specific articles.
This time we’ll highlight the winners of the highly-contested 18 Open division:
Skyline 18 Royal
The popular club from the Dallas area emerged victorious in the highly competitive Open Division, which featured 26 teams. Skyline 18 Royal showed a lot of talent and determination to bounce back from a loss along the way to end on top with a 9-1 record.

Lexi Guinn Lexi Guinn 6'0" | OH Frisco | 2022 State #52 Nation TX – Right Sider – HS: Frisco – 2022
A long-legged and heavy-armed pin hitter who’s very capable of scoring from any side of the net, Lexi Gunn is a very prolific offensive player. She plays on the right for Skyline 18 Royal and is frequently the team’s main scoring option in matches. The six-foot Guinn has a very complete offensive game, which combines a wide variety of shots and an excellent jumping ability. A Texas A&M commit, she ranks 24th in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings and produced 346 kills, 41 blocks, 283 digs and 532 passes in the last high school season with Frisco. She was one of 38 Texas players to be part of last year’s USA Volleyball’s inaugural National Team Development Program (NTDP) Summer Training Series.
Emily Canaan Emily Canaan 5'8" | DS/L Allen | 2022 State #48 Nation TX – Libero – HS: Allen – 2022
Any volleyball team works better with a reliable and efficient libero on the backcourt and Skyline 18 Royal is truly privileged for having Emily Canaan Emily Canaan 5'8" | DS/L Allen | 2022 State #48 Nation TX . The team’s 5’8” defensive rock does a tremendous job in quarterbacking the backcourt and has outstanding ball control. One of the best liberos in the entire state in the class of 2022, Canaan is great in anticipating plays and is fearless in putting her body on the way of hard-driven hits. Ranked 48th in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, she has committed to the University of Florida and ended her high school career with Allen with 1,957 passes, 1,621 digs and 114 aces.
Rosemary Archer Rosemary Archer 6'0" | S Lovejoy | 2022 State #35 Nation TX – Setter: HS: Lovejoy – 2022
Ranked 52nd in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, Rosemary Archer Rosemary Archer 6'0" | S Lovejoy | 2022 State #35 Nation TX has every attribute of a modern setter. She’s got the size at six-foot, the volleyball IQ needed to make good decisions, the technique to execute them and is also very versatile. Archer has been part of one of the top high school programs in the state in Lovejoy and that has certainly contributed to her development as a player. Last season she was asked to play as a right sider and wasn’t fazed by the challenge, producing 563 assists and 409 kills, besides 71 aces, 32 blocks and 384 digs. Part of this year’s USA Volleyball’s National Team Development Program (NTDP) National Indoor Winter Training Series, Archer has committed to Pepperdine.
