Burgos is a huge add for the I AM squad. She does a great job keeping the ball in front of her, seeing the block, and pounding the edges of it. Burgos doesn’t show much mercy when she goes up to attack.
Claire Crawford Claire Crawford 5'5" | S Appleton West | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’5 – Setter – Appleton West – Wisconsin Blaze 18 Black
Crawford is very quick to the ball and gets the ball out of her hands just as fast. I really appreciated her effort to get a hand on as many 2nd balls as possible and how she worked in a fast tempo offense when in-system. Crawford was also a really scrappy defender, which I always love to see!
Emily Brenner Emily Brenner 5'10" | OH Stanley-Boyd | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’10 – Pin Hitter – Stanley-Boyd – Wisconsin Ice 17 National
Brenner isn’t new on my radar, but she will be breaking into the rankings in the next update. She hits with a really heavy arm and her contact sounds like a sonic boom. Brenner is a six-rotation player who moves with confidence and purpose.
Claire Sobczak Claire Sobczak 5'4" | S Pacelli | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’4 – Setter – Pacelli – Wisconsin Ice 17 Purple
Sobczak’s serving came up huge in more than one tough spot this past weekend. She is a big part of why 17 Purple was able to battle with some really tough teams in the 17/18 Open division, even with a fairly small roster (only one player over 5’7). Sobczak led the charge for a very scrappy group.
Grace Carlson Grace Carlson 5'6" | DS/L Newman Catholic | 2023 State WI – 2023 – Libero – 5’6 – Newman Catholic – Wisconsin Ice 17 Purple
Carlson has a hustle that just doesn’t quit. I’ve seen her step into an attacking role when one of their hitters was injured, and she still made all-conference in a completely different position. Carlson also has one of those serves that makes you really hope she misses, so you don’t have to deal with it.
Isabella Davis Isabella Davis 5'8" | RS Appleton West | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’8 – Right Side Hitter/Defensive Specialist – Appleton West – Wisconsin Blaze 18 Black
I really enjoyed watching Davis. She’s a lefty who can really elevate and hits a nice power alley shot. She also does a really nice job of working the edges of the block and using them for an automatic kill. Davis is athletic and a versatile hitter who could take a terminal swing from either pin.
Samantha Kohl Samantha Kohl 5'9" | OH Kettle Moraine Lutheran | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’9 – Outside Hitter – KML – Milwaukee Sting 17 White
Kohl had this way of just exploding off the ground so quickly and then taking a fast swing down the line. If you blinked, you might have missed it. If you are looking for an athletic Pin Hitter who knows how to score, Kohl is your gal. She is terminal and plays with a really high IQ.
Sydney Hoeft Sydney Hoeft 5'10" | S Port Washington | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’10 – Setter/Pin Hitter – Port Washington – I AM 17 Red
Hoeft was putting up sets that hitters would drool over. She was leading her hitters exactly where they needed to go. I think her volleyball IQ is very natural and fluid like the game itself.
Karissa Rettler Karissa Rettler 5'3" | DS/L Tri-County | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’3 – Libero – Tri-County – Wisconsin Ice 17 Purple
I’ve seen Rettler play a number of roles over the years, but in every role she is in, she hustles. She was playing Libero last weekend and pursuing the 1st contact really well. She’s a positive teammate and willing to step up and play just about any position you need.
