Yes, some top talent from Nebraska and beyond will reconvene at the UBT Sports Complex in Omaha for the season’s second iteration of the Midwest Power League. This will be another great opportunity to catch up with teams from the Cornhusker State, scout some out-of-state talent, and discover new names. The Midwest Power League remains an excellent venue to keep all the Nebraska coverage rolling, and I hope you’ll be here to follow along.
First, let’s get you primed for Sunday. Here’s a quick glance at some pool matchups and teams to follow.
17/18 Open
We’ll see plenty of familiar competitors in the 17/18 Open division.
Premier Nebraska 17 Gold and Nebraska Elite 17 Vici will take on six other 18s teams in this group. 17 Gold is coming off a tough gauntlet against some of the country’s top clubs at Triple Crown NIT. Playing in another 18s group at the Midwest Power League will not intimidate this team, and the same can surely be said about 17 Vici.
Meanwhile, Nebraska Juniors 18 Black will look to build off its 18 Open championship at the Asics President’s Day Classic last weekend. NE Jrs will surely be one of the Power League’s top teams once again, and they also should have another nice battle with Nebraska Elite 18 Omega, which had a runner-up finish in the same group at President’s Day.
Club Ignit Select 18 Blue returns to the Power League field as one of Iowa’s representatives. With their Nationals bid already secured, 18 Blue continues to use these events to sharpen their skills in preparation for the big title race in April. Many other Nebraska teams will look to challenge Ignit in 17/18 Open, including Premier Nebraska 18 Black and VCNebraska 18 Elite.
Quick Hitters and New Perspectives
Here are a few notes on some teams that I’ll be excited to follow at this second Power League. I’ll be getting my first extended look at many of these squads.
- Club Legacy is putting three teams in 17/18 Club with 18 Alpha, 18 Bravo, and 17 Alpha appearing in this field. We’ll also get two South Central NE representatives with 17 Red and 17 Black challenging themselves against a pack of 18s teams. I’ll be watching this bunch closely.
- Nebraska Volleyball Academy will be here in several of the age divisions. NVA Winter 18 will be in the 17/18 Club group, while NVA Winter 17 and NVA Winter 16 will battle in the 17 Club field.
- Plenty more talented teams will be challenging themselves against older age groups. Nebraska ONE 15 Synergy is another team that had a strong showing at Triple Crown NIT last week and will compete in the 16/17 Open division on Sunday. Nebraska Elite 15 Matrix also joins Nebraska ONE in this pool.
