A week after the 18s and 16s divisions conducted Tournament 1, it was the 15s and 17s age groups going at it for their first tournament of the four-tournament schedule. Prep Dig was on hand for both Saturday and Sunday action. Below, we list six top attackers from the 15s that we witnessed.
Kaci Demaria, OH, Surfside 15 PV Legends – When it comes to any conversation about the top talent in the 15s division in So Cal, Demaria’s name is a must. There’s really nothing she can’t do. She’s tall, attacks well from the front and back row and is solid in serve receive.
Brooklyn Drumwright, OH, 949 15 Black – Drumwright was part of the 949 roster that captured 14 American gold last summer at Junior Nationals. She’s the team’s go-to hitter and for good reason. She hits a heavy ball with a powerful swing. She has a variety of shots and even attacks out of the backrow.
Ronni Lyons, OH, Seal Beach 15 Black – Lyons is another who impressed on the left. She’s a springy, aggressive hitter. She can mix it well-timed tips and Seal Beach will set her on the right side and out of the back row as well.
Mae Kordas, OH, Wave 15 Rachel – One of the top outsides in the division, Kordas is tall and strong. She connects with power and Wave definitely looks for her to end lots of points. She also has a good serve where the ball can fall off a ledge making it hard to pass.
Nia Thompson, OH, Wave 15 Rachel – It wouldn’t be surprising to see Thompson play libero at the next level. She’s a back row beast and it seems it’s almost impossible to get a ball by her or down on her. She made many great plays in the back row but she’s also a capable attacker with a good arm swing.
Layli Ostovar, OH, Mizuno Long Beach 15 Rockstar – Mizuno gets plenty from Ostovar, as she’s a good all-around player at outside. She showed smart attacking, good defense in the back row and some tough serving at times.
