The two-day tournament was the second of the season for the 18s and 16s, which features 12 of the top teams in So Cal in each division. It was an incredible weekend for SCVC 16 Roxy, which went 7-0 and won the 16s division with victories that included beating Coast 16-1 in pool play and Wave 16 Brennan in Sunday’s playoff final. Below, we list five of the top middles we saw from the 16s divisions, focusing on players who weren’t already mentioned from the first tourney from two weeks ago.
Madeline Way, City 16 Gold – The energy Way brings to the court can be infectious, especially when she’s making plays for City. She has a knack for coming up with timely blocks to provide a spark defensively. On offense, City will get her involved whether on quick attacks or running the slide, which she is proficient at.
Camden Bolane Camden Bolane 6'0" | MB Pacific Ridge | 2024 State CA , Wave 16 Brennan – The middle position is one of strength for Wave and Bolane contributes to that. She moves well and her ability to the run the slide is something Wave looks for, as she can send it down with pace when it clicks. She also sees the court well and can hurt defenses with off speed shots and tips.
Anna Sanzaro, Seal Beach 16 Black – Sanzaro has a quick arm swing that allows her to connect well when the set is there. Watch for her on the quick attack because when it’s there she can really get a hold of it and let loose.
Jade Dudley-Epps Jade Dudley-Epps 6'0" | MB Lakewood | 2024 State CA , Mizuno Long Beach 16 Rockstar – The offense changes when Dudley-Epps checks in. She’s explosive and gets off the ground in a hurry. She can score off the quick set or run the slide and the way she gets up she’s a hard cover.
Chloe Hynes, SCVC 16 Roxy – Hynes isn’t a prototypical middle and is more an outside playing the middle position. Because of that she gives SCVC a different look when she’s checked in. She’ll line up on the left and swing from there. She’ll attack out of the traditional middle spot and she’ll also line up on the right side and swing from there, so she provides plenty of versatility.
