The two-day tournament was the second of the season for the 18s and 16s, which features 12 of the top teams in So Cal in each division. It was an incredible weekend for SCVC 16 Roxy, which went 7-0 and won the 16s division with victories that included beating Coast 16-1 in pool play and Wave 16 Brennan in Sunday’s playoff final. Below, we list five of the top setters we saw from the 16s divisions, focusing on players who weren’t already mentioned from the first tourney from two weeks ago.
Brooke Hansen, Forza1 North 16 UA – A dual role player for Forza, Hansen plays a big role for the team. She sets back row and hits across the front row. As a setter, she can run it all with good placement from outside sets, to 31s to back sets. With her size, she’s also a capable attacker with a good court sense.
Julia Kakkis Julia Kakkis 6'1" | S Mater Dei | 2024 State CA , Momentous 16 Dan – Kakkis is another one who sets and hits for her team. She’s a big part of what Momentous does. She’s a fairly physical hitter who the team relies on for scoring when she’s up front. Another thing she provides is solid defense, as she made quite a few ups to keep rallies going.
Dani Sparks, Seal Beach 16 Black – Part of a 6-2 for Seal Beach, Sparks has a nice touch and soft hands with consistent location. She can move the ball around too keeping blocks and defenders on their toes.
Kiki Remensperger Kiki Remensperger 5'9" | S Poway | 2024 State CA , Coast 16-1 – The more one watches Remensperger, the more there is to like. She plays the position with a poised demeanor and she’s also really good at setting. Her sets are consistent and she’s able to go anywhere from the outside, to the middle to the right and even back row helping produce a balanced attack when the passing is on.
Sade Ilawole Sade Ilawole 5'3" | S Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA , Mizuno Long Beach 16 Rockstar – Ilawole is another setter running a 6-2 and her speed is among her strengths. She’s quick and can get to balls in a hurry and that helps. She has a good feel and is able to get all of her hitters involved.
