The current recruiting classes have been through everything not normal when it comes to this process. Interestingly though, it is just brought about new “vessels” such as Zoom and Hudl being very common tools. College coaches have been out in full force and will be looking once again this weekend. The Badger Region Championships will provide plenty of talent in the 17 Open division, and here are some players that should be high priority when recruiting.

[player_tooltip player_id="91952" first="Evinae" last="Jordee"] – 2023 – 5'9 – Setter – Middleton – Capital 17 Adidas

[player_tooltip player_id="122560" first="Andi" last="Spies"] – 2024 – 5'10 – Setter -

This setting tandem has been such a huge key all season for Capital 17 Adidas. They both provide good size, are super athletic, and have great court awareness. This group has been put to the test and just keeps growing. Many of these players will be big impact players on their high school teams, like [player_tooltip player_id="91910" first="Ally" last="Saleh"] from Waunakee.

[player_tooltip player_id="119399" first="Amelia" last="Albers"] – 2023 – 5'4 – Libero – Stoughton – Capital 17 Adidas

Albers always stands out to me as this rock-solid 1st contact who just never seems to waver. Capital has just been on the very cusp of being dominant. They have found a groove at about the halfway point of the club season. They are among some of the top teams at Champs this weekend and will probably be looking to make a statement in the Badger Region. When Albers keeps them in-system, you will see the likes of [player_tooltip player_id="149575" first="Sierra" last="Pertzborn"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91883" first="Jordan" last="LaScala"] shine.

[player_tooltip player_id="119396" first="Kennedy" last="Schmitz"] – 2023 – 5'2 – Defensive Specialist – Fox Valley Lutheran – FC Elite 17 Navy

Schmitz has been solid out of the back row, and when a play starts with Schmitz and ends with [player_tooltip player_id="119431" first="Finley" last="Charapata"], it's bound to be good. 17 Navy took 3rd in the Badger Region Qualifier and was a top team at the Prep Dig Chi-Town Classic. They've earned an American bid to USAV in Indy and will tackle the MEQ after the Badger Region Champs.

[player_tooltip player_id="175530" first="Emily" last="Brenner"] – 2023 – 5'10 – Outside Hitter – Stanley-Boyd – Wisconsin Ice 17 National

Brenner has been a pretty consistent standout for 17 National. She gets a really great contact on the ball and has a powerful torque and swing to score a lot of points. Ice 17 National has had a lot of top finishes but has yet to get to that championship match. This is in large part due to a trio of pins who Brenner is a part of, including [player_tooltip player_id="149694" first="Samantha" last="Perlberg"] and [player_tooltip player_id="122492" first="Meg" last="Pfannerstill"] (2024,) who are all phenomenal 6-rotation players.

[player_tooltip player_id="91895" first="Molly" last="Berezowitz"] – 2023 – Libero – Burlington – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold

Berezowitz is one of the top liberos available, and I can't imagine she stays that way for very long. She gets strong training year-round between Sting and the Burlington program. Berezowitz knows how to take some heat off a hard attack and is very dependable in serve-receive to keep her team in-system as much as possible, giving middle's [player_tooltip player_id="61787" first="Emily" last="Clausen"] and [player_tooltip player_id="82901" first="Maddy" last="McGath"] more time to shine.

[player_tooltip player_id="91894" first="Rachel" last="Koss"] – 2023 – 5'11 – Setter – Freedom – FC Elite 17 Navy

Koss knows how to trigger that spark on the court. She just has that intangible that can't be tallied in the stats, but you know is crucial. Koss can move the ball around with control. 17 Navy has competed with quite a few 18s and in high divisions to get them ready for top competition. They have [player_tooltip player_id="91936" first="Molly" last="Rohde"] and [player_tooltip player_id="82921" first="Kaitlin" last="Schulz"] putting up a monster block to create issues for the opposing attack.

[player_tooltip player_id="82916" first="Sylvie" last="Zgonc"] – 2023 – 6'0 – Outside Hitter – Hamilton – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold

Zgonc is an exceptional pin hitter who can play six rotations with her ball control. Sting is coming off a dominant finish in the Badger Region Qualifier. Zgonc will find a lot of success with the first contact coming from Kati Goba, while [player_tooltip player_id="82287" first="Emily" last="Honzelka"] establishes the attack in the middle.

[player_tooltip player_id="82893" first="Rachel" last="Rossing"] – 2023 – 5'7 – Setter – Lake Country Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting 17 Black

Rossing is as solid as setters come. She's a stellar defender, and her set placement is right on point. Sting 17 Black can run a quick tempo offense or let their high flyers on the pins take all their crafty shots. Rossing has dynamic weapons with the likes of [player_tooltip player_id="91886" first="Rylee" last="Duessler"], [player_tooltip player_id="82890" first="Kyra" last="Klumb"], and Katie Lockwood. Rossing has the experience and knows how to rise in those big moments, so you definitely don't want to overlook her.

[player_tooltip player_id="91861" first="Samantha" last="Fisch"] – 2023 – 6'1 – Middle Blocker – Luther Prep – Milwaukee Sting 17 Black

Fisch is strong, long, and athletic, with the ability to run routes across the net. She presents a big defensive presence along the net while [player_tooltip player_id="91882" first="Olivia" last="deGuzman"] takes care of the defense behind her. When Fisch connects with setters, Rossing or [player_tooltip player_id="91923" first="Sydney" last="Schultz"], there is no stopping her.

[player_tooltip player_id="151415" first="Natalie" last="Harris"] – 2023 – 5'7 – Libero – Racine Case – [program_tooltip program_id='431479' first='Wisconsin' last='Juniors'] 17-1

Johnson is a Racine Case prep who has been flying under the radar for far too long. When she and setter, [player_tooltip player_id="119417" first="Sydney" last="Selburg"], provide the first two contacts, good things happen; like running something out of the middle with [player_tooltip player_id="119434" first="Abby" last="Alan"]. Harris does a great job of holding her platform and taking most of the serves. She reads and anticipates extremely well and is the constant that her team needs when things get tight.
