<p>Sophomore defensive specialists excelled for teams throughout Region 1 during the 2021 high school volleyball season.</p>
<p>Here are five 2024 Region 1 defensive specialists to watch. </p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="107408" first="Kenna" last="Bodell"]</strong> is a sophomore defensive specialist from Ballard Memorial High School. Bodell is among the key players for her high school team. Athletic, Bodell is a talented back row hitter. </p>
<p><strong>Lauren Fugate</strong> is a sophomore setter/defensive specialist from Community Christian (Paducah) High School. Versatile, Fugate can produce consistently from multiple positions. Reliable, Fugate is quick and covers the court thoroughly. </p>
<p><strong>Lillian Griggs</strong> is a sophomore defensive specialist/outside hitter from Christian Fellowship High School. Griggs is able to deliver from various parts of the court regularly. A player with a diverse skill set and solid jumping ability, Griggs can excel in both the back row and the front row. </p>
<p><strong>Gabby Hayden</strong> is a sophomore defensive specialist from Graves County High School. A player with strong back row skills, Hayden digs and pursues well. A reliable player with solid defensive skills, Hayden makes plays routinely from her defensive position. </p>
<p><strong>Laney Shehorn</strong> is a sophomore defensive specialist from Carlisle County High School. Shehorn possesses solid ball control skills and has shown the ability to be a key player for her high school team. Poised to carry momentum over into her junior season, Shehorn is a consistent passer. </p>
