The 17 Open is shaping up to be a blood bath in Indianapolis. Some of the biggest names in prep volleyball are in this division and throwing it down. There’s no easy pool and there’s no easy bids here.
Here are some of the top players to watch at Mid-East Qualifiers in Indianapolis.
Zoey Dood (2024) | 6’2 S | MVA
She’s one of the hottest names in the 2024 class and she’s heading up a team full of 2023s. Zoey Dood is lengthy at the setter’s position and she’s a lefty! Dood can dish out a ball from anywhere on the court to great success. She loves to call her own number on two and it brings MVA to a whole new level.

Lauryn Bowie (2023) | 6’2 OPP | Mintonette
Bringing the lightning and the thunder, Lauryn Bowie can bring it down on the right side. Super agile and great footwork, Bowie puts herself in great scoring position often. As the season has developed, so has she, pulling out new tricks from her sleeve with every tournament.
Neele’ge’ Sims (2023) | 6’1 MB | Michigan Elite
After a rough 2021 season, Neele’ge’ Sims has returned to the club scene with a vengeance. The healthier she gets, the higher her ceiling goes. Sims is having herself a breakout season and is improving vastly in her blocking and attacking game. Earning herself high regards at the recent UA Next camp in Houston.
Allison Berent (2023) | 5’7 L | L2
Talk about athletes having breakout seasons, Allison Berent is having one of her own. She’s the glue that keeps this L2 squad pushing and then some. Berent’s passing game has been developing superbly as the season goes and her defense has been off the charts.
Erin Madigan (2023) | 6’1 S | Legacy
Its rare feat to see a club slot in their top two teams in the open division in a tournament like the Mid-East Qualifier. Erin Madigan is a large reason for this. Madigan is a taller setter that runs a fast offense and can block well at the net.
Ceci Gooch (2023) | 6’3 MB | Drive Nation
Taking her ball to the Big Ten in the Fall of ’23, Ceci Gooch is a big deal for Drive Nation. She plays her game at a different altitude than her counterparts. Gooch is a terminal attacker with a growing range of shots and her blocking is coming together quite nicely.
Emily Waddell (2023) | 6’0 MB | Circle City
Emily Waddell is quite literally running the show for Circle City. She’s fast on her feet and she’s quick to take flight in transition. Waddell’s athleticism takes this squad to great lengths and she’s just getting better with every tournament.
Nina Horning (2023) | 6’4 OH | Legacy
A part of the 1-2 Legacy punch on the pins with Harper Murray, Nina Horning more than holds her own on the left side. Her size at her position already creates an imposing threat, but then she starts firing away and it’s not much teams can do to defend her. Horning sees the block well and can use the toughest of blocks to her advantage.

Stella Swenson (2024) | 6’1 S | MN Select
Another setter playing up an age group and crushing the competition is Stella Swenson. Swenson can run a very efficient and fast offense. At 6’1 she proves to be even more terminal as a blocker and attacking option herself.
Kate Hansen (2023) | 6’2 MB | TAV
Kate Hansen is another springy, fast-twitched player on this list in the middle. She can get off the floor fast and on top of the ball even faster. Hansen is super efficient in front of the setter and has developed a great touch to the ball behind the setter as of late.
