Among the hundreds of teams heading to the Salt Palace Convention Center to start competing on Friday, there are, of course, several from Washington and we will use the time between now and them to feature some of them.
We decided to focus on the divisions of the 16s age group, which will have nine teams from the Evergreen State in action. As we had already highlighted some of those teams in previous articles, we’ll now bring some light to the ones that are yet to appear on our site in 2022.
NCWVBC 16 Gold
The top team from the North Central Washington Volleyball Club out of Wenatchee is formed mostly by players from the Wenatchee and Eastmont high schools. They have finished second in the Jingle Ball Battle, fourth in the NW Jrs MLS Weekend Tournament and 62nd in the Las Vegas Classic and are currently at 14 wins and nine losses for the season.
Players to Watch
Maya Mathena – Setter/Outside Hitter – HS: Wenatchee – 2025
Maya Mathena is mostly used as a setter for NCWVBC 16 Gold, but can also play as an outside hitter. Her ability to play two different positions as a Class of 2025 prospect speaks volumes about her technical skills and understanding of the game. That combination alongside her very physical, 5’11” frame makes of her a player to follow as she continues to develop her game.
Brianna Sackman – Outside Hitter – HS: Wenatchee – 2024
Brianna Sackman helps NCWVBC16 Gold tremendously with her excellent all-around game. The 5’9” outside hitter has good firepower at the net and thrives for hitting around the block very well. She’s also very clean on the defensive side of the game and has gotten to improve in different areas by training and playing on the sand.
Anessa Hanson – Middle Blocker – HS: Wenatchee – 2025
Anessa Hanson is another prospect on this team with clear potential. She stands at six feet at a very young age and has long arms and good athleticism. Her game is still coming together, as with any player of her age, but Hanson has excellent physical tools to build from.
