Going 7-0 over two days, Texas Legacy 17 Adidas punched a first-place win in the Gold Bracket on Sunday with an impressive two-set win in 17 club division. This is not the first time this team has posted a first-place finish. This up-and-coming team finished first at the Countdown City Classic. Below, we will spotlight Texas Legacy 17 Adidas members who are working hard to make this team a contender.
Brenna Groenemann – #18 – Grand Oaks High School
One of the reasons that Texas Legacy was so dominant at Cross Court classic was this player’s ability to be strong at the net both offensively and defensively. With her fast and heavy arm swing, she posted some powerful swings for Legacy in the championship game. Her willingness to work to be available as a hitting option on every play also makes her stand out as a player. At only 6’0, she plays bigger than her height and had momentum-shifting blocks for Texas Legacy in their final two games at Cross Court. Be on the lookout for her to be on the radar in the upcoming weeks.
Mckenna Ferris – #4 – Klein Collins High School
Another huge asset to this Texas Legacy team is their right-side hitter, Mckenna Ferris. She posted 8 kills against Krewe 17’s to send Texas Legacy to the championship game. Her versatility as a lefty allows her to create an offense with her line shot, which proved hard to defend for opposing teams. The lefty doesn’t stop there. She can also be a force on the outside as well as she had several dominant swings from the outside position over the weekend.
Keely-Ann Shelnutt – #15 – Klein Collins High School
Number 15 created a solid back row for Texas Legacy over the weekend, but what was more impressive was the number of aces she was able to rack up. Her aggressive serve gives her an advantage against opposing teams and can place the ball with accuracy. She is able to handle a two-man serve-receive pattern and does this often. She provided stable ball control for Texas Legacy and will be a huge asset as this team moves into their bid season, with the Pacific Northwest Qualifier coming up.
Cibeles Bothwell – #5 – Grand Oaks High School
Another stand-out athlete in this Texas Legacy team is defensive specialist Cibeles Bothwell. Coming out of a strong high school program, she seems poised and ready to take on the club season. During the Nike Cross Court Classic, she combined with libero Keely-Ann to provide stability in the back row both in defense and serve-receive. She is able to provide solid middle back defense for 17 Adidas and kept the ball in play during some hard-fought rallies.
Caitlin Stein – #7 – Concordia Lutheran
Number 7 has been a great pin hitter for Texas Legacy this season so far. Coming out of a strong high school season with Concordia Lutheran finishing in the state tournament, Caitlin seemed to flow easily into her club season. At Cross Court Classic, she looked poised at the pin, hitting well from both outside and right side. Her setters put the ball in her hands a lot, and she did not disappoint. Her low errors allow her to be a trustworthy pin.
